In need of some easy words that start with C? Whether you’re teaching kids, looking for a certain word, or have some other reason – hopefully the list below will help.

I’ve put together a list of words beginning with C that are easy to spell, sound, and great for forming sentences.

From short, early learning words like ‘cap’ and ‘car’, to slightly more challenging words like ‘cosmic’ and ‘crystal’ – you should find enough words to get started with:

Easy Words That Start With C

Cage – a structure of bars or wires in which birds or other animals are confined.

Cake – an item of soft sweet food made from a mixture of flour, fat, eggs, sugar, and other ingredients, baked and sometimes iced or decorated.

Calculate – determine (the amount or number of something) mathematically.

Calf – a young bovine animal, especially a domestic cow or bull in its first year.

Call – contact or attempt to contact (a person or number) by phone.

Camel – a large, long-necked ungulate mammal of arid country, with long slender legs, broad cushioned feet, and either one or two humps on the back. Camels can survive for long periods without food or drink, chiefly by using up the fat reserves in their humps.

Camera – a device for recording visual images in the form of photographs, film, or video signals.

Camp – a place with temporary accommodation of huts, tents, or other structures, typically used by soldiers, refugees, or traveling people.

Can – be able to.

Cancel – decide or announce that (a planned event) will not take place.

Candle – a cylinder or block of wax or tallow with a central wick which is lit to produce light as it burns.

Cap – a kind of soft, flat hat, typically with a peak.

Capital – the city or town that functions as the seat of government and administrative center of a country or region.

Car – a four-wheeled road vehicle that is powered by an engine and is able to carry a small number of people.

Carrot – a tapering orange-colored root eaten as a vegetable.

Cat – a small domesticated carnivorous mammal with soft fur, a short snout, and retractable claws. It is widely kept as a pet or for catching mice, and many breeds have been developed.

Cob – the central cylindrical woody part of the maize ear to which the grains are attached.

Cod – a large marine fish with a small barbel on the chin.

Cold – of or at a low or relatively low temperature, especially when compared with the human body.

Computer – an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.

Cool – of or at a fairly low temperature.

Cot – a small bed with high barred sides for a baby or very young child.

Cow – a fully grown female animal of a domesticated breed of ox, kept to produce milk or beef.

Cup – a small bowl-shaped container for drinking from, typically having a handle.

Cut – make an opening, incision, or wound in (something) with a sharp-edged tool or object.

Medium Difficulty Words That Start With C

Cane – the hollow jointed stem of a tall grass, especially bamboo or sugar cane, or the stem of a slender palm such as rattan.

Cape – a sleeveless cloak, typically a short one.

Card – a piece of thick, stiff paper or thin pasteboard, in particular one used for writing or printing on.

Care – the provision of what is necessary for the health, welfare, maintenance, and protection of someone or something.

Cash – money in coins or notes, as distinct from cheques, money orders, or credit.

Cave – a natural underground chamber in a hillside or cliff.

Clam – a marine bivalve mollusc with shells of equal size.

Clap – strike the palms of (one’s hands) together repeatedly, typically in order to applaud someone or something.

Classic – judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind.

Clean – free from dirt, marks, or stains.

Club – an association dedicated to a particular interest or activity.

Conceal – not allow to be seen; hide.

Corner – a place or angle where two sides or edges meet.

Cosmic – relating to the universe or cosmos, especially as distinct from the earth.

Cough – expel air from the lungs with a sudden sharp sound.

Crab – a crustacean, found chiefly on seashores, with a broad carapace, stalked eyes, and five pairs of legs, the first pair of which are modified as pincers.

Crash – (of a vehicle) collide violently with an obstacle or another vehicle.

Cricket – an insect related to the grasshoppers but with shorter legs. The male produces a characteristic musical chirping sound.

Crime – an action or omission which constitutes an offense and is punishable by law.

Crush – compress or squeeze forcefully so as to break, damage, or distort in shape.

Crutch – a long stick with a crosspiece at the top, used as a support under the armpit by a person with an injury or disability.

Crystal – a piece of a homogeneous solid substance having a natural geometrically regular form with symmetrically arranged plane faces.

Cute – attractive in a pretty or endearing way.
