Career Change Turns Real!

So... today was interesting... Life under the Glass Ceiling is beginning to look very real. Due to a weird and to be fair, pretty boring chain of events, I had to go and see the big boss this morning slightly earlier than planned and more face-to-face than anticipated in order to put in my request to reduce my days in college. Currently I work four days a week, and as established in earlier posts, I need out. The grand Career change plan is to drop down to two days per week so that I can kick my business off and give it my all. This can only happen at the end of the academic year.

I was pretty terrified - she is a formidable woman - but it seemed to go well. She promised to think carefully about it which really means she's probably planning on employing someone a lot cheaper than me.

What does this all mean, I hear you ask? Well dear reader, it means that I am cacking it!

The career change is actually looming and I am scared by the reality of something I've been dreaming of for the last nine months. It's so hard to jump off the career ladder, to give up that competitive monster and 'let it go' as the song says. I'm working to keep the image of my ideal career in the front of my mind and strive toward that rather than retreat into the safety of the place I've been working for the last eight years.

Then there's my kids. Work is sucking all of my energy and taking my focus away from them. I've really felt it this week after a blissful half term week, I feel like work comes first and that isn't the way I want this to go. I firmly believe that there must be a way to have a fulfilling, creative career at the same time as being a good parent to my little darlings. I am determined to make my life under the glass ceiling count and make it bend to me rather than the other way round.

Wish me luck!
