Quarantine Week 5 & 6 Consumption Recap

Quarantine Week 5 & 6 Consumption Recap combines two weeks for two reasons: 1. There really were no particular highlights for any consumption – besides maybe red wine – but seriously we didn’t make anything of note and we certainly didn’t watch anything; and 2. I simply did not have the motivation last week. I swear I felt like I was walking around backwards though we started a puzzle, which is something.

Anyway, I remain committed to chronicling what we’re doing. At the very least, it has given my wife some appreciation for the cooking I do each day (in addition to the planning and food shopping).

Meals of the Weeks:

Monday, April 12 Dinner: Lemon Chicken – butter, parsley, white wine, garlic, lemon juice, pepper, chicken stock with a little corn starch to thicken the sauce; side of homemade macaroni and cheese with mixed green salad.

Friday, April 16 Lunch: Pork wrap – Hot sliced pork chop in Tony Chachere’s original creole seasoning, sliced onions, cheddar cheese.

Monday, April 20 Dinner: Sautéed shrimp over black bean pasta – lemon zest, fresh tomato, butter, white wine; romaine, tomato, bean and corn salad.

Tuesday, April 21 Lunch: “The Dirty” – Breaded chicken cutlet (air-fried, what a revelation), roasted red peppers, lettuce, cheddar, mayo on a toasted hero.

Wednesday, April 22 Breakfast: “The Go-To” – Vanilla-flavored whey protein, tablespoon of chunk peanut butter, whole frozen banana, ice, water – tastes like the chocolate banana Good Humor bar we used to get from Fat Charlie (who ironically lost a lot of weight) back in the day.

Wednesday, April 22 Dinner: “Diner Special” – Turkey club lettuce wraps – turkey, cheddar, cut bacon, mayo garnish.

Thursday, April 23 Breakfast: Avocado toast and an over-medium egg – secret ingredient is everything bagel seasoning.

Friday, April 24 Lunch: “The Amanda” – Avocado BLT on whole wheat toast

Friday, April 24 Dinner: Chicken and shrimp jambalaya (ran out of sausage) – mix of chicken legs and pounded out, sliced breast; large shrimp; Mexican yellow rice; sliced onions and peppers; Tony Chachere’s seasoning; pepper.

Reading:

Never got started on Cormac McCarthy Trilogy (couldn’t even spell his name right at first). Went with Rules of Civility by Amor Towles, author of A Gentleman in Moscow, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Still not reading nearly as much as I’d like to, but I need to reset my expectations.

Regular TV Watching:

  • The Blacklist – What a bore…
  • The Goldbergs – Consistently something to watch
  • CBS Sunday Morning – Some sense of normalcy to start each Sunday (despite all the press conference interruptions because I really look forward to the NYC v. Albany pissing contest…)
  • The WireWe started watching this – I haven’t seen it since high school – and it’s fine – better than that, truly progressive for its time – but I’m just getting tired of watching tv. It’s something to flip on, at least.

Movies:

  • Uncut Gems – Best Sandler period, though I did not feel the anxiety or tension so many people told me I’d feel. I guess when you’ve been confined to your house about to start your 7th week in isolation and the world is burning all around, you’re not really going to feel anxiety from a movie; you’ve got too much real anxiety. Kevin Garnet can act, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Mike Francessa acting spot. I didn’t see the ending coming, either, so well-done with that!
  • The Gentlemen – Standard Guy Richie, great cast, interesting enough story. Will rewatch because we definitely were sleeping with our eyes open watching it.

What’s on tap for this week:

I’ll be live teaching this week on a regular schedule, so that’s exciting. I’d like to get some writing done and finish reading Rules of Civility. We’re going to order a new faucet for the kitchen and a new shower head to redo the fixtures in the bathroom (eventually).
