Wedding Celebration May 16, 2015

We often go through life expecting each day to be just like the one before – at 62 years of age and having been married and divorced years ago, I certainly didn't expect anything more from life than to continue working until retirement, babysitting my beautiful grandsons, and at the end of the day catching up on my reading and my favorite television programs.

In early June 2014 I logged into Facebook to see if there were any new pictures of my grandsons. I had no idea something unforeseen was about to happen that would turn my life upside down; after all, it was a day just like any other.  As I was viewing my Facebook posts, I saw him for the first time in 45 years – Christopher Meuse, my first boyfriend.  I read that Chris had recently gone through a 20-hour surgery to remove a large tumour from his brain.  After a slight hesitation, I decided there would be no harm in messaging him to see how he was recovering.

It was the beginning of our online communications, and a few weeks later Chris suggested that we meet in person.  We agreed to meet on Sunday, June 29 by the water near the village where we first dated as Teenagers.  As I waited, I wondered if this meeting would turn out to be awkward or even a mistake - after all, we weren't teenagers anymore. Then I turned around and saw Chris standing there holding a red rose in his hand, and it was as if all the years in-between fell away ... as if we had never been apart.

We shared each other's life journey over the last 45 years, and spent the next few months getting reacquainted.  It didn't take long to realize that the feelings of love we had felt for each other as teenagers were still there ... just like that our lives picked up where they had left off many years ago.

On August 21, as we were sitting on a bench overlooking a pond at the Halifax Public Gardens, Chris got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Without hesitation I joyously accepted.

We often reminisce about how we were brought together again in such a serendipitous fashion.  “When you want something, all the universe conspires to make it happen." We will be forever grateful for this gift of true love…a blessing given at a time in our lives when we can truly appreciate and fully experience its wonder.

Chris and I were married on Saturday, May 16, 2015 with family members in attendance. It was a simple but lovely ceremony … a celebration of the beginning of the rest of our life together, where Love is available here and now in every moment.

Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.”   Eckhart Tolle
