What’s In Your Bucket?

What’s In Your Bucket?

In 2007, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman started in the box office hit,The Bucket List. The movie tells the story of two people, one a billionaire and the other a blue collar worker, both with terminal cancer. While sharing a hospital room together, they decide to leave it and do all the things they have ever wanted to do before they die according to their bucket list. The movie sparked a movement that caused many people (myself included) to consider what they wanted to do, see, or achieve before they “kicked the bucket.” You may have made a list yourself.

Your list may be long or short. For most, it would probably be something tangible: Becoming a millionaire before age 40. Owning an expensive sports car. Building your dream home. But what would be your #1 thing on your list? The one thing above all else?

Since I have been a Christ-follower most of my life, my bucket list would probably be different that many people. I have enjoyed reading how God changed the lives of people during periods when God revealed Himself in a powerful way!

Many people today are totally unaware of the great “awakenings” that has happened in the past. One of the greatest spiritual movements was the Hebrides Revival in 1949. Duncan Campbell wrote, “Picture this in your mind: A small group of believers in God are praying, pleading with God, late into the night, begging him to save their community from the corruption and gross sins that are destroying their quality of life. Then, suddenly, after several months of praying, it happens: Without any arrangement or expectation, in the middle of the night, men and women get up from their beds, turn on lights, and fall on their knees, crying out to God to save them from their sins. This happened for a period of many days….All of a sudden the whole community was crying out to God—and no man organized it, called for it, preached it, or expected it! Suddenly, the whole community was standing in the fear of God! Almost everyone could sense it, yet no one knew where it came from. The worst of sinners, the drunkards, the prostitutes, the criminals, the atheists, the God haters, and all sorts of social rejects—were crying out to God to save them.”

To the average person today today this sounds so unnatural and it is. This kind of happening is a SUPERnatural move of God. The old Baptist minister, Vance Havner, once said, The Church has been abnormal for so long, it seems normal. Revival is the Church getting back to the way God intended.”

My #1 in my Bucket List is to experience God’s Spirit sweeping across America where people return to the God of our Fathers. Where morality replaces hatred and bigotry. Where honesty and integrity is more important than getting rich. Where loving God and your neighbor is the most important thing in our lives. Mark 12:30-31

IF God has a bucket list, HIS # 1 would be having a personal relationship with Man. The Bible is the story of God reaching out to Man to restore that lost relationship. “…not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
