When we seem busier than ever, why are we blogging, tweeting, facebooking, etc?

SO, this is my first post of my first blog.  Oh my... what an odd, new world I'm stepping into. Today, I attended a tech-conference at one of the local schools.  A gentleman from the Gates Foundation informed us that this IS the wave of the future.  Classrooms are becomming integrated where the computers teach and the teachers assist the computers.  My elderly aunts and uncles spend time on Facebook.  My husband and I probably have longer chats on our cell-phones than we do in person (ok not really, but sometimes it feels like it).  Supposedly, all of the Computer time is making our lives easier... freeing up precious time to do other things.  Why is it then, that I can't seem to keep up with any of it?  I have piles of chores waiting for me at home, and piles of emails waiting for me on the computer.  At what point does my free-time finally become free?
