Fact of the Day: Barleycorns and shoe sizes

Wednesday’s Fact of the Day is all about Shoe Sizes. I’m a UK size 6.5, which is a Euro size 40, but have you ever wondered who made up the sizing systems to get to those numbers?  Well I went on the interwebs and had a wander about and it turns out the answer is a lot weirder than I expected it to be. The Anglo-Saxons used to measure things by Barleycorns, which was their smallest unit of
