I love you!

Once upon a time, long ago, lived a mighty King. He was brave and kind hearted. His subjects adored him, his enemies feared him. Life was perfect ! But for a minor glitch...... the King was blind as a bat !
Well if this made you a little sad, you still haven’t heard anything about his beautiful queen. The lovely queen whose name was Gandhari, loved the King dearly……….. she just couldn’t bear the idea that she had eyes, while her beloved husband suffered!

So one day she decided to blindfold herself, making a vow, that like her husband she would never ever see the world again.

Well as the story goes she kept her promise until death !
   But you just wonder.....
Did she never feel bitter to land up like that?
Did it never cross her mind, to cheat …sometimes….her husband was blind anyway!
Did she never ever regret her decision later on?
Did she never sneak a single view of a lovely starry night, to admire her baby’s face, to admire her own!
Did the king value her sacrifice or did it make him feel more vulnerable.
Did he blame her in his heart, for putting this unnecessary burden on his shoulders?

We'll never know for sure, cause psychiatric analysis wasn't very popular during those times, nor were sold out autobiographies !
But probably the answers to most questions is a big NO, maybe  it actually was an expression of true love.
And extreme though this story sounds, we mortal humans with all our shortcomings, often show milder versions of ‘GANDHARI EFFECT.'
Remember :
The promotion you refused, so that you could spend more time with your family.
The sweet you didn't buy, cause your diabetic mom would also be tempted !
The fact that there is hardly any salt in your food, cause a loved one at home has high blood pressure.
The job you gave up to be with your kids.

We do it every day, and like her, most of us do it silently and happily, cause that is the golden rule....do it because it makes you happy, full filled, closer to the person, for God sake don't ever do it as a big favour.... your loved one can easily do without  this burden.
