Stoat aka Ermine (source)

Our ermine's coat (or stoat's coat) is changing from winter to summer. Here's an interesting fact about the word 'ermine': Ce mot est d'origine française.  (That word is of French origin.)

We're back frigid temperatures and bleak skies, unfortunately, with a freezing rain warning that began last night. Toad is back to staying in bed most of the time; he says he feels horrible and extremely anxious, and is shaking. These are facts, not complaints. I know that things could be worse. I gave him a Risperidone pill just now at 12:40pm to see if this helps him.

No sign of the ermine so far today. I hope it has moved on. I'm cooking some corn and spaghetti for our chickens and preparing to roast some vegetables to use in a comforting homemade soup. We had a store-bought boxed lentil curry soup with naan for brunch, which was okay, but not as good as homemade.

It's 2:24pm and from the sky is falling a mixture of sleet and snow--the freezing rain warning held true. The chickens have been fed and we have several sticks of firewood in the house. The woodstove is blazing. Life is good. Toad is feeling more mellow and is lying down while I practice French via Duolingo. Verbs: Present 3 and Abstract Objects 3 needed to be strengthened back to gold in order to return my French tree to gold.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Duolingo has now made available ten new French stories as Set 4, and so, despite this blasted headache, I read and participated in both parts of the first story of this set:  Un drôle de tour (A Funny Ride). Took two extra-strength Tylenol to take the edge off the headache.

This evening I read several more chapters in the Woolaver book about Maud Lewis aloud to Toad. It is very detailed and well-researched. We are really enjoying it, and are about a third of the way through at this point. Tomorrow I should receive a big library pouch containing eight books and DVDs that were checked out to me today. Looking forward to it! Still have four items on hold for which I am first in line.

I saw the ermine on our back porch again this evening. He looked at me through the door glass as if asking where the cooked chicken was today. I'm worried about our chickens being killed by it, but it is a cute little animal. No pics--just a quick glimpse before he ran off.

It's freezing outside at the moment at 0C(32F), but the weather forecast for tomorrow is SUNNY and WARM, with a high of  +9C(48F)! I hope to dog that it pulls us out of the doldrums. I want to let our chickens out now that the snow is melting, and should melt a lot tomorrow, yet will have to watch them due to the ermine hanging about.

Naan/marinara/shredded cheese pizzas for dinner, one each, and then on to Justified S2E4&5. Good ol' Harlan County, Kentucky, and U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. I'm quite fond of characters Boyd Crowder and Mags Bennett, too. And they certainly are characters!

Getting offline at 10:20pm to watch, read and sleep, in that order. Toad has had his meds and gone to bed, but was up a lot again today. He's lost that awful hacking cough pretty much, too, although since I mentioned it to him I've heard him cough a time or two.

Bonne nuit !
