Too Much

There's a big snowstorm headed our way, supposed to hit tomorrow. I worry about the lack of firewood in the house. Toad refuses to fetch any and when I mention it, says "Will you leave me alone! I'm sick!" and lies down. It is 2:40pm. The honey on my tongue is hardening; I feel myself wanting to criticize him for not even picking up a stick of wood when he takes our dog out. It irks me to see him come in empty-handed when we have such a need for firewood.

Slept until noon but not well, Tommy attached to my side under the covers so that I couldn't turn over, Owl on top of my stomach, and my neck at a bad angle so that it was/is very painful. My gut is in an uproar and I have an awful headache, neck ache, and backache. And a lot to do. Not a great start to my day but I hope things improve. There's always hope. Or so I've heard.

So far today I have cooked for the chickens and for us (black bean tortilla wraps again, delicious), put away the dry clothes that hung in the living room and replaced them with wet ones from the second load of wash I did yesterday, had my meds, read today's newspaper, fed the cats, and watered the fern. As I was taking my meds, the purple box I keep them in lying open on my lap, Toad came in empty-handed from taking Foxy out and said "You haven't even had your coffee yet!", meaning that he wants coffee. It was all I could do to not yell at him; I did tell him emphatically that I had been busy cooking for him and the chickens and putting away his dry clothes and hanging more of his washed clothes to dry and to give me a break! That is when I mentioned that he needs to bring in firewood soon and he erupted (above). Tommy is once again on my lap, seeking warmth and comfort. Poor old cat, he's getting thinner and I know he doesn't feel well. He just wants me to feed him and hold him when he isn't eating. I still need to attend to the caged birds, vacuum the living room, clean up the kitchen, and wash another load of laundry, not to mention do some extra work in the house. And then there's the backlog of financial and other important paperwork to deal with. Oye.

Another thing that worries me is that we are nearly out of dry cat food. Toad is the one who feeds that to the cats; I feed them the canned food. At the grocery the other day I asked if we had plenty of dry cat food and Toad said "Yep!", annoyed that I had asked him. Well, guess what? We did not. The cats get really upset if they can see the bottom of the dish that contains their dry cat food; they leave little crumbs of it in the dish and refuse to eat them. Dry food is all that Baby will eat but the others want it in addition to canned food. I really do not feel like getting dressed for public viewing and driving to the grocery. All I want to do is curl up with an interesting book and escape from reality for a while.

La lecture est ma grande passion.

Yikes! Tommy just reached out his paw and pressed a key on my laptop that made my post disappear! Fortunately I was able to press Undo and get it back. I made him get off me. It is all just Too Much!

It is 3:54pm and I'm sitting down to rest after cleaning the three birdcages with bleach wipes and providing the birds with fresh water, seeds and peanuts (for the doves). Toad did go out and fill a wheelbarrow with firewood. I helped him get it inside and stack it, to half fill one of the wrought iron stands. I checked the dry cat food status and think there is enough for today and tomorrow. Friday we'll be out and will also be snowed in. Not good.

 Je vais étudier.  .

After the relatively easy jigsaw puzzle of the day I practiced French via Duolingo. There were three units to return to gold, so I did Strengthen Skills exercises to achieve that for Materials, Art, and Education. I did an extra review of Phrases just for fun.

Before it got dark I wheedled Toad into fetching another load of firewood and, again, helped bring it inside and stack it. The wrought iron stand in front of the window is full and four sticks overflowed to stand on end on the floor. I feel a lot better about it now.

My daughter called me in the early afternoon for a few minutes. The boys, especially GC, were giving her a hard time. She finally took them downstairs to eat, promising to Skype me later. Which she did. By then the boys were feeling good and playing very well together. We visited for an hour, and I greatly enjoyed being with them from afar.

We had oats for a late dinner, with lactose-free milk and a bit of syrup to sweeten it. I got Toad up to eat, had him take his meds and remove his nitro patch, and readied his meds for morning. He then went back to bed at 10:52pm.
