Taking stock, assessing, reviewing life, celebrating Accomplishments. In general, I like State of the Union addresses. The human interest stories, the joyous countenances of those in agreement… the sour apples faces of those in opposition, lol… kind of docudrama at its finest, along with a good dose of hand-over-heart patriotism.

After one month into 2018, it’s a good time for all of us as an individuals, as well as for our entire Family, to think it through: how are we doing? Are we on target with our goals? Are we better people? Are we moving forward or falling back?

There’s only one way that I know of how to move forward and that’s to focus on our own lives. Bless others, help others, take care of those less fortunate, but make no excuses: you must move forward with your own life. Get more education, get a job… or a better job… advance without holding onto someone else’s coattails. Start pulling yourself up and becoming self-reliant.

Have you tweaked your goals? Have you broken them down into manageable parts? Have you checked off a few accomplishments already?

Now is the time. One month is past. There’s no time like now time.

Think of the basics: being on time to school or work, cooking nutritious meals for the family, going to bed or getting up at a normal hour, basic physical activity to increase your health, doing fun things together with loved ones, enjoying the company of friends, planning family meals at least once a day, scheduling in spirituality, networking on behalf of a colleague rather than just for me- me- me! When the foundation is strong, it’s not so difficult to build from there.

List your accomplishments so far this year. See where you’re headed.  What do you want your life to look like?  Smile and rejoice. Life is good. No, life is great!

Everybody should give their own State of the Union speech… to the mirror. Ultimately, we may not be able to affect world peace, but we can take charge of our own life and make the world a better place one person at a time.
