3 Brothers Vegan Cafe features pizza with housemade vegan cheese.
3 Brothers Vegan Cafe, the first all-vegan restaurant in Long Island, NY, opens today. The eatery’s origins stem from 2009, when vegan chef Jay Astafa introduced a plant-based menu at his father’s pizzeria. The menu was so popular that the traditional menu soon became 70 percent vegan. The new location features a 100-percent vegan menu including mozzarella sticks, kale Caesar salad, seitan picatta, a bacon cheeseburger, and myriad innovative pizzas such as a BBQ Pulled Jackfruit and the veggie-heavy Verdure. Another interesting element to the eatery is its in-house cheese program: Chef Astafa makes fresh cashew milk mozzarella, cashew milk cheddar, cashew-tofu ricotta, macadamia feta, cashew parmesan, and cashew bleu cheeses for the whole menu—and nut-free vegan cheeses are also available. From this all-vegan pizzeria (open for dinner only) to vegan options at chains such as MOD Pizza and Domino’s in Israel, dairy-free slices are taking over the world.
