“She’s sexy,” says romance consultant Angie Ang. “But wait, listen to her voice.”

“She’s sexy,” says Angie Ang with a toss of her long hair. “But wait, listen to her Voice.” She hands me her smart phone, continues reading her file for a while and asks, “Okay, you’ve watched the video?”

I nod and one side of my mouth crooks.

“Which brings me to ‘voice’ in romance.” Angie slips her jacket off her shoulders and hangs it over the back of her chair. “Do you know that Jillian O’Connor of MacMaster University found that women are attracted to men with low, deep voices? But, unfortunately, such men are more likely to cheat compared to men with less masculine voices.” The shrill tone of her voice skitters my stomach.

“That’s interesting! Why?”

Angie’s pensive eyes study my face. “Why what?”

“Why this attraction?”

“Such men are perceived to be dominant and more likely to achieve higher social status.” Angie’s eyes crinkle at the corners just a smidge before a slow smile eases across her lips. “In short, they’ve good genes.”

My gaze skips to Angie’s lips. “Why the infidelity?”

“Could be linked to higher testosterone level.”

“Why are men attracted to high-pitched voices in women?”

Angie picks up a sheaf of papers, reads through them and tosses a sideways glance at me. “A high-pitched voice is associated with a smaller size in women and also higher fertility. Men’s DNA have been programmed to be attracted to these traits.”

“A deep-voiced man got a bigger tool?”

“No research on this yet.” A gleam in Angie’s eyes indicates that tease is on the way. “However, the University of Utah found that howler monkeys with deeper howls have smaller balls compared to those with less deeper calls. And vice versa.  So, on that basis, men with deep voices mayhave smaller balls!”

“By golly! I wonder how small were Barry White’s?” Mischief curls my lips. "If your assumption is true."

“Barry who?”

I snatch Angie’s smart phone off her desk, press a few buttons and hand it back to her.

“Here,” I say, my lips veering to one side, eyelids flickering, “please listen to his voice.”
