Kindness begins at home

Kindness is a great virtue, for sure. One of the greatest. But the older I get, the more I realize that it’s not only a matter of being kind to other people.
That’s important, of course. But it’s also important, I find, to be kind to myself–and more specifically, to be kind to my own Body.
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes forget this. I get so wrapped up, for example, in some task I am performing that I forget that perhaps my octogenarian’s body is not really up to the task. Or, maybe, my octogenarian’s body would like to accomplish the task at a somewhat slower, or more comfortable rate of speed.
Believe me, my body keeps a careful record of what it can and cannot handle, and it lets me know quite firmly, if necessary, if I put too great a strain on it.
This morning, though, I was proud of myself. It is my usual custom to go for a good Walk at the start of the day. This morning, to my surprise, the thought arose quite clearly in me that my body did not want to go for a walk. It wanted to have a nice rest instead.
In the end we came to a compromise. We would go for a short walk. Quite a short walk. Happy body, and honestly, happy me.
Please share if you have any thoughts on the above. Love and best wishes to you.
