Immortal and free are we

Every now and again I like to remind myself that, as an old friend once said, “this world is not the only place.”

Don’t get me wrong. On the whole, I’m enjoying my stay on Planet earth, especially in these more recent years. I enjoy, for example, going to the gym and working out on the resistance machines. I enjoy the pleasure my aging body feels as it exerts itself and realizes that though it is getting older, there is life and vigor in the old bones yet.

I enjoy going for walks on the nearby trail, and greeting other walkers, and listening to the sounds of the creek and the sounds of birds singing. I enjoy visiting the local coffee shop and reading a book or chatting with a new friend or watching children frolic with their parents.

I enjoy the magic of little moments, like when I looked out the front door window the other day and saw a baby rabbit, no bigger than the palm of my hand, emerge cautiously from its hole under our porch for perhaps the first time and stare in total confusion, I’m sure, at the big, bold world around it.

I realize anew that despite the challenges that this life can bring, the turmoil and trouble that we see around us and sometimes within us, life itself is good. Life, and this planet we inhabit, is a source of unending wonder. Which one of us could create a blade of grass? It is not life’s fault if so often chaos reigns.

But I realize also, with growing thankfulness, that earth is not my true home, just as it is not your true home. Our true home is Spirit. Our true home is Truth. We do our best, while we are here, to be true to ourselves, and to give the gift that is ours to give, but when the time comes to say goodbye to this world it is to Spirit, and Truth, that we shall return.

Immortal and free is the spirit forever. Death has no power over it at all. Would love to hear from you if you would like to share a few thoughts on the above. Blessings to you.
