A Tribute to Friendship

Friendship, true Friendship, the kind that endures, and grows, comforts and inspires, is one of life’s greatest gifts. It has a bit of magic to it. It draws forth from within us the natural spontaneity and love of life that dwells within us all. It invites a spirit of discovery. It is a safe place where we can share with another human being just about anything and know that our thoughts and challenges, our pain, joy, and deepest realizations will be received and respected.

True friendship, in my experience, is pretty rare. But how I thank God that it is, and always will be, a very real possibility and potential in virtually any stage of life, but perhaps especially as we age.

It's a mystery, of course, this gift of friendship. We can't "make" it happen. It happens when it happens. Who can predict when it will come knocking on our door, or through whom it will appear?

I do know this, though. If we keep our sense of wonder alive, that we inherited as a child, and if we listen to the voice of courage and compassion in our heart true friendship will find us. Even in these Difficult Times, especially in these difficult times, it will find us. It will find YOU.

My love to you. If you have any more thoughts on the above, please share.
