IN MEMORY:REVISITED

I was recently asked to repost this and I am happy to do so. Thanks for asking!

In Memory...
His voice drew me in and promised the sun, the moon, the stars. Not in the words he spoke, but in the magic of connection. My ears weren't what heard his words...No, it was my soul. When he laughed I remembered the Long Ago Warmth of belonging, the forgotten whispering of beating hearts. Time had finally wrapped around eternity and here we were, together again! The wind shifted to seal our fate and nothing would ever be the same again...
He was an ordinary man, but not to me. When his eyes of ocean-blue looked into mine, I saw the spark of recollection, the fire of reconciliation. His smile wrapped around my heart. He could be gentle this lover of God's creatures. He trained horses with the knowledge gleaned at his Grandfather's side. He Loved dogs and rabbits. He loved the earth and the feel of a good Horse as they rode into the wind, leaves and dirt whipping through the air as the horse galloped ever faster.
The man's hair, thick and curly, dampened by the mists of morning, tugged at my heart. He sat so tall on that horse as if there was where he belonged.

But this man who seemed bigger than life was human. He could be cruel. He could be unforgiving, loud, and lash out at those he loved. He could disappear for days, weeks, months at a time with no word. The same Grandfather who gently taught him how to handle a horse gave him beer and whiskey when a toddler because this loving? Grandfather thought it funny to see the boy stagger around.
The boy with the knack for gentling horses didn't stand a chance. The man with the thick, curly hair was an alcoholic.
He has gone Home now. But love never dies. His voice still draws me in and I remember the long Ago Warmth of belonging. He's with me still....My husband.
