3 Office Safety Concerns That Everybody Forgets

As an employer, it’s up to you to make sure that all of your employees are safe in the workplace. If people don’t feel safe at work, they’re not going to be as productive and if anybody does get injured, you might end up with a lawsuit on your hands, and nobody wants that. Most bosses remember all of the usual stuff like fire escapes and getting your electrical appliances checked regularly but there are a lot of small details that people forget. These are some of the Office hazards that you probably haven’t dealt with yet.
The Parking Lot
The parking lot is a dangerous area that a lot of bosses don’t think about. When you’ve got a lot of people driving and walking around, there’s always the chance of an accident. You need speed limit signs up so people drive slowly and you need to enforce the rules and reprimand any employees that break them. Put good footpaths in as well so people aren’t crossing the parking lot all of the time.
If the road outside the office is particularly busy and a lot of people speed down there, you need to do something about it if you’re going to keep your staff members safe on their way to work. It’s worth getting a laser radar gun and hiring somebody to operate it. This will act as a good deterrent and stop people from speeding, making the journey to work a lot safer for your employees.
Clutter
People think of clutter as an inconvenience but they don’t often think of it as a danger, but it can be. If the office is messy and cluttered, you’re just increasing the chance of trips and falls, especially if you’re cluttering up walkways and corridors. A neat and tidy office is also good for productivity so it’s essential that you’re always on top of the cleaning. Make sure that everybody is keeping their own desk area tidy and have a cleaner come in regularly for the communal areas.
Mental Health
Workplace dangers aren’t just physical, they can be mental as well. High stress levels can lead to more serious mental health problems like anxiety and depression so you’ve got to keep a close eye on your employees. If you’re working them to the bone and never giving them any time off, they’re going to burn out and their mental health is really going to suffer. It’s important that you’re managing workloads properly and delegating fairly so people aren’t taking on too much. You also need to offer good holidays to give your employees a chance to recharge their batteries.
Some employers are even moving toward a 4 day working week over the traditional 5 days. It’s been implemented in a lot of other countries already and studies suggest that productivity increases and stress levels go down. People are still getting their work done and having more time to spend relaxing with their families means that they’re well rested and ready to work on the days that they are in the office.
A lot of bosses forget about these Safety Concerns around the office but it’s important that you deal with them if you want your employees to be happy in the workplace.
