Detroit Realities #869

An acquaintance attended a home tour in Detroit to see about possibly re-locating there. She came away from the experience upset that she even considered it. She says, “There are so many regulations, and conflicting regulations regarding residential real estate in Detroit! It is physically impossible to get all of the necessary permits to purchase and fix-up a home to live in it. So everyone cuts corners, otherwise there is no way to move forward. You can’t believe the insanity of trying to operate by the rules in Detroit; I fear for any business or developer that is suckered into investing in Detroit.”

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • 37-year-old Detroiter, Jhamall McGaughy, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. What did he do? After a long criminal history, he began sex trafficking women by getting them addicted to drugs (heroin and crack) and then force them into prostitution for him. He would beat the women if they tried to purchase drugs from anyone else.
  • A Detroit home on Mayfield was firebombed and set on fire, causing 8 people being transported to the hospital; one man was burned beyond recognition.
  • A car at 8 Mile and Lahser maneuvered around barricades and got stuck 20 feet into newly-poured concrete. It was a repair to a water main break; the driver was awarded several tickets.
  • In the middle of the afternoon, a Comcast employee standing on a porch in Detroit was shot at by a passenger in a moving car. The was hit once and is listed in temporary-serious condition.
  • A 38-year-old Detroiter was shot during an attempted carjacking near Linwood and Hazelwood; he is listed in temporary-serious condition.
  • An altercation on Detroit’s Braile Street ended with the death of a 35-year-old woman and an injured 32-year-old man; Detroit Police do not know the circumstances of the incident.
  • A 44-year-old Detroiter pulled up to his home (near W. Warren and Evergreen) when he was approached by a man that pulled a gun and shot him. The victim drove himself to the hospital.
  • An armed mugger pulled a gun on a man walking on E. McNichols; but the victim was a CPL holder who fired shots at the mugger, injuring him as he fled. Detroit Police caught the suspect.
  • Two armed men robbed an Auto Parts store on W. Seven Mile by Hubbell.
