Detroit Realities #856

Cartier Buffalo sunglasses can cost a couple thousand dollars. In Detroit, several have paid for them with their lives. From 2012-2016, Cartier Buffalo glasses were the cause of: 9 homicides, 17 non-fatal shootings, and over 2,000 robberies. At a Detroit “Peace Rally” in 2016, Pastor Mo Hardwick stopped a Cartier sunglasses robbery. The suspect fired shots in the air to get away, buy Hardwick and another man held the robber on the ground until the police arrived. Since the event, Pastor Hardwick has had numerous death threats against him and his family. His congregation is staying away from his services because they are afraid of a retaliation attack.

A woman filed a lawsuit against a Detroit Holiday Inn and the Fairfield Inn, Ann Arbor – for complicity in her abduction and forced prostitution at their establishments. Lawyers are targeting deep-pocket targets and the women want to bring awareness to sex trafficking and the failure of hotels to help victims, even when confronted with what is actively happening that moment in their hotel.

In Detroit North news (Pontiac), 25-year-old Mark Hoover was arrested following 11 felonies in different areas in just 90 minutes. They include armed robberies, 8 carjackings, several home invasions, assaults, and an attempted rape. Sounds like he was playing the live version of the game, Grand Theft Auto-5

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • A tip from a viewer of “Detroit’s Most Wanted” led to the capture of Darryl Fernald on Detroit’s westside. Unbelievably, a Detroit judge put him on a tether (which he cut) in spite of a lifetime of crimes across the state and breaking into homes to rape.
  • An apartment building in Warren on Schoenherr was the site of a murder of a 53-year-old woman by another resident. In 2016, there was another murder by a resident.
  • Two Detroit men, with long criminal records, were arrested by Dearborn Police and Michigan State Police after a car chase. The men were charged with armed robbery, fleeing police, and habitual offenders. They ditched the stolen box truck and tried to flee at 8 Mile Road and Schafer. Because Dearborn Police caught them, bond was set at $500,000 instead of $500 in Detroit.
  • A 28-year-old Detroiter, Ddior Thomas Hughes, was denied bond for fatally shooting a man in an argument over tires and rims with another man.
  • Two 17-year-olds from Detroit were charged with breaking into cars and stealing valuables, along with stealing a car – in Northville at Haggerty and 8 Mile Road.
  • Detroit will end 2019 with an increase in homicides over 2018. Yep, great resurgence!
