Detroit Realities #841

Detroit City Council is considering an ordinance that official emails cannot be deleted and must be retained for 5 years. Really? Shouldn’t this have been required for the last 30 years? This ordinance is in response to the Detroit Mayor Duggan’s staff deleting emails related to his mistress’s non-profit and funneling money to her through this business.

What were you up to when you were 20-years-old? Tyrell Jones and James Dent, both 20, robbed two people at a Detroit apartment complex on Joy. They ordered them to the floor and shot the woman in her thigh. The 42-year-old woman, De’Angela Richardson, later died at the hospital. Jones, who is also facing charges in a separate homicide, was arrested for a stolen car just a couple days after murdering Richardson. Thankfully, this time, the two suspects were denied bond.

What is all the drama around WSU governance and their Physicians Group lawsuit? Now we know: WSU diverted $330 million of Medicaid reimbursements to cover the mounting financial losses of the university. Now the FBI is investigating this 6-year “re-direction” of funds.

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • The family of a deceased Detroiter is suing Detroit Paramedics for “leaving a man struggling to breathe to die.” Maurice Freeman died a couple hours after paramedics left him without working oxygen as he went in and out of consciousness. They are suing the city for wrongful death and negligence.
  • Auburn Hills Police captured Detroiter, London Moses, for shooting a man in the leg at a motel over a drug debt. Since he wasn’t caught in no-bail Detroit, the judge set bail at $250,000.
  • 33-year-old Detroiter, Marvin Dismuke, is facing charges from speeding on Greenfield and Grand River, running a traffic signal – resulting in a crash that killed a mother and daughter.
  • 36-year-old Detroiter Michael Fogle is facing a long list of charges from leaving an argument by backing up, running over a 2-year-old girl (she survived) and then fleeing.
  • On Devil’s Night this year, instead of the 100-300 arson spike over a 3-day period, it was just the usual 8 arsons that the Detroit Fire Dept. receives every day.
