In life-long criminal news, 27-year-old Detroiter Edward Anderson was just arrested. Hmm, what has he been up to (in just 2019) you ask?
- Fired several shots at a woman driver who was exiting the Lodge Freeway
- Carjacked and robbed 2 women at a Detroit gas station
- Mugged a 53-year-old man at gunpoint of his personal property and clothes off Southfield Road
- Mugged a 27-year-old man, striking him in the head with his gun before robbing him of his property and clothes, by Diversey.
- Mugged a 20-year-old at gunpoint by Scotten
- Mugged a man at gunpoint near Hancock
- Mugged an 18-year-old at gunpoint on Cass
Detroit has nearly spent all of Obama’s $265 million in federal money to demolish blighted homes in the city. Naturally, the Mayor is eager to keep spending other people’s money to demolish homes (to get kickbacks?) and wants to sell bonds to grab another $250 million that the city cannot afford to pay back. People paying attention say none of it makes sense: the city is paying $11,000 to take down homes that shouldn’t cost more than $5,000; the city could sell the lots that it already owns to get over $200 million in free money without interest; paying top dollar for the remaining demolitions would still be less than $172 million; plus there is too much cost inflation/favoritism/cutting environmental corners, etc.
And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,
- In spite of a lot of police presence around Wayne State University, two students were robbed at gunpoint last week. WSU Police believe that the same duo committed both robberies.
- A 19-year-old Detroiter was shot multiple times while taking out the trash with his brother at 2pm on E. Vernor Hwy. The brothers were approached by 2 men that announced a hold-up before shooting the boy and fleeing.
- A 39-year-old woman was pounding on the back door of a Detroit home owned by someone that she knew. The homeowner shot the woman who is now in critical condition; police are still investigating.
- The founder of a Detroit criminal gang, Corey Bailey, age 31, was just given 2 life sentences for several counts of murder and racketeering. Bailey’s gang terrorized neighbors, sold opioids, and assassinated rivals.
- In a “Wallet Found Test” in a dozen U.S. cities by a famous Youtuber (Mark Rober), Detroit came in last place with the fewest returned wallets.
