Detroit Realities #832

The Detroit owner of the 3 Pit Bulls that mauled a 9-year-old girl to death has been charged with second-degree murder. Emma Hernandez was riding her bike in an alley next to her home when she was attacked by the dogs that routinely get out of their fence. A neighbor’s son tried to help Emma and testified, “I saw the dogs run up to her and jump on her. They attacked the girl, grabbed her by the leg and started eating her.” Another neighbor said the dogs get out looking for food and jumped on her car with her grandkids, who were screaming from the attack. The dogs owner’s ex-son-in-law testified that the dogs get loose and tried to attack him as he left for work and that many people warned the owner about how aggressive his dogs are and frequently leave his yard. After Hernandez heard the charges, he was overheard saying, “Well, I guess my life is over.” No, Hernandez – Emma’s life is over and ended horrifically from your continual negligence!

The story is developing for the “accidental” razing of a Detroit home being renovated by a state rep.’s non-profit. The debris from the demolished home (with a new roof and window) showed up at a landfill and it a turn out there was no permit for a demolition, utilities were not turned off, and they cannot find the company that did it yet. Detroit Police are now investigating.

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • A 24-year-old was denied bond for a fatal shooting in Detroit by Harper and Chalmers. The shooter, Shawn Knox was retaliating against a prior incident with the victim. Of course, Knox was already a felon and it was illegal for him to have a firearm.
  • U.S. Marshalls are searching for a couple responsible for a gunfight at a Detroit gas station where two people were shot at Cadieux and Harper.
  • Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $2,500 reward in a fatal shooting in Detroit last summer. A man and woman died from their gunshot wounds.
  • Detroit Police are seeking 2 shooters and 3 people of interest in a non-fatal shooting at a Detroit gas station on Fenkell near Wyoming.
  • Detroit Police are searching for 2 separate Hit & Run drivers. One victim died at 8 Mile Road and the other is in critical condition after being struck on Curtis.
  • Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information about the death of Drevon Johnson. The 20-year-old’s body was found on a Detroit roof a year ago with gunshot wounds. He was a new father and aspired to be a gaming engineer.
  • A 73-year-old Detroiter was charged with first-degree arson for burning a vacant home that also caught the next-door neighbors on fire. 5 Firefighters were injured battling the blaze when the roof caved in, causing severe burns to a couple of them.
  • Speaking of fires, Detroit Firefighters rescued 3 women trapped upstairs in a house fire on Wilshire, and pulled a 59-year-old man to safety from a lower level. The fire was started by a hot plate in the kitchen and there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
  • An Ecorse neighborhood on 17th Street is on edge after a man ran through several yards being shot at, and finally fell from multiple gunshot wounds. Ecorse Police are searching for the shooter.
