Detroit Realities #824

The Mayor and Detroit City Council are destroying yet another industry. The short-term rental market (AirBnB for example) helps support families across the country. Naturally, the socialist officials don’t like this so they are introducing a long list of ridiculous regulations to make it all but impossible for Detroiters or investors to continue making money. The result can ONLY be more blighted and abandoned homes in the city, per usual when the city intervenes…

UAW leader Mike Grimes just plead “Not Guilty” to charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, and Money Laundering. Grimes is accused of receiving $2 million in bribes and kickbacks from union venders.

Speaking of corruption, Anthony Daguanno was sentenced to a year in prison for taking $372,000 in rigged demolition bids for Detroit Mayor Duggan’s blight removal program. Yet another UAW official, Gary Jones, was arrested for embezzlement, and money laundering after the FBI raided his home. He embezzled a small fortune from fake invoices.

Dearborn doesn’t have a lot of crime, but when they do, it is because of nearby Detroit. This week, 3 Detroit teenagers (ages 13, 14, and 17) went on an armed robbery crime spree. They stole the handbags of 3 women in separate muggings, resulting in the shooting death of a 29-year-old, Saja Aljanabi, a woman just trying to go home. The 14-year-old Detroiter has already been arrested 3 times before this one and was on a probation tether (how many times were you arrested by age 14?). The 13-year-old was already on probation for retail fraud and tested positive for marijuana when he was arrested. Thankfully, the Dearborn Police Chief says, “We did not sleep until we found the perpetrators.”

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • A 21-year-old from St. Clair Shores stabbed a Detroit Coney Island security guard after some groups got into an argument in front of the restaurant. The victim is in serious condition at the hospital.
  • Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for information on the Detroit murder of 25-year-old Mia Patterson. She was last seen in May, 2017, getting into a small white car with two men before her remains were discovered with multiple gunshot wounds and blunt force trauma.
  • An argument in Detroit at 8 Mile Rd. and Livernois ended when a man deliberately struck another with his car before fleeing, instantly killing the victim.
  • A witness told Detroit Police they saw a shirtless man firing shots into the driver’s side of a vehicle. Police found a dead man in his 20s in that car.
  • 18-year-old Detroiter Kendell Jones was denied bond on charges of first-degree murder at 8 Mile and Veach St. He fired 8 shots at a 26-year-old, killing him instantly.
  • A Detroit Arson Task Force captured 23-year-old Keiashia Love and she was arraigned for starting 3 fires at abandoned homes in Detroit.
