Detroit Realities #814

After a 3 year manhunt, Monroe Police arrested the sex-trafficking ring leader of the Detroit’s Victory Inn motel. The motel was ground zero for illegal drugs like heroin and forced prostitution for years, run by Darrick Bell. A big law enforcement raid in 2017 freed 14 enslaved women and there were 10 arrests. But Bell has been getting help from a woman to remain at-large, and was arrested as well. Bell is already a convicted killer and 6-time felon before all the charges from the Victory Inn.

Speaking of girlfriends helping criminals, 30-year-old Detroiter Ruemondo Murray convinced at least 7 women to illegally purchase over 30 handguns for him. He is a convicted felon and cannot purchase firearms. Murray would sell the guns on the streets of Detroit. Yeah, those gun-control laws are working really well… Murray was only caught when police found guns and ammo in his home.

Let’s hang out at a park in Detroit! Wait, what? A 15-year-old rode his bike through a park at Fairmount and Schoenherr, by an area where a group of men were gambling. One of the gamblers starting shooting (probably after losing a dice match) and the teenager realized he was shot, and got someone to take him to the hospital.

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • A woman was chased out of a Detroit home on Lahser by a gunman that had killed the homeowner. Police are searching for the suspect.
  • A 17-year-old boy was found dead by a family member on Roxbury Street. The Medical Examiner is investigating.
  • A man was gunned down by two assailants at a Detroit gas station around 9pm. One shooter was caught and Detroit Police are asking for the public’s help with the second suspect.
  • On the first night of the Democratic Presidential Debates, there were 4 shootings, 2 of which were fatal. One was a woman shot while waiting for a bus at Mack and Gratiot; another was a man just sitting in his car on Wildemere, shot multiple times.
  • After 8 days on the run, 24-year-old Lawrence Davis was caught by Detroit Police on 8 Mile Road. What did Davis do? He drove his car into oncoming traffic, hitting the car of another 24-year-old from Berkeley that was planning to move to Detroit. Davis got out of his car and beat the other driver to death and then went through his pockets looking for items to steal. After Davis’ arraignment, his aunt said, “He didn’t mean to do that, mistakes happen.”
  • At a Detroit Coney Island, a man walked in drenched in blood from a shoulder gunshot during a triple shooting. The 3 victims were teenagers at a block party near 7 Mile Road and Hamburg.
  • Enhelica Williams is back in Detroit Federal Court for violating bond. She was charged in being part of an adoption scam for non-existent babies. While out on bond, she is accused of posting sexually explicit photos online of her husband’s ex-wife.
  • Michigan State Police seized 50 grams of crack cocaine in Highland Park on a routine traffic stop of a 44-year-old Detroiter.
  • Some Detroit Firefighters discovered a dog in distress, bound with chains and wires and having some injuries. They rescued the dog and turned him over to the Detroit Dog Rescue.
  • Detroit Police responded to a 911 call on Turner, only to find a deceased 29-year-old man with multiple gun shots.
