Detroit Realities #810

A new book was published on Detroit by a British cop that has spent years riding along with Detroit Police Officers. The book is titled “American Ruin: Life and Death on the Streets of Detroit – America’s Deadliest City,” by Michael Matthews. Yep, surely it is about the successful ‘resurgence’ of Detroit.

Giordanos Pizza in Greektown closed after just 2 years. They have a lot of successful restaurants in Illinois and Michigan, what is different about this one? Guests complained that the staff in Detroit seemed annoyed that they had to work and so service was horrible.

The problem with Detroit’s low-bail judges: Daryl Edwards got out on bail for $2,500 for threatening a woman with a knife, even though his criminal history included: child abuse, domestic violence, home invasion, and felonious assault as a habitual offender. So what did Edwards do out on bail? He shot a 3-year-old and 8-year-old when he also shot 2 adults that are now in critical condition. The shooting took place on MacKenzie Street near Livernois. How many child shootings in Detroit is that so far this year – 12?

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • An unidentified man’s body was found outside on Cedargrove Street in Detroit with multiple gunshot wounds. Police are searching for a person of interest.
  • At Warren and Evergreen in Detroit, an argument between two women (one of them 8 months pregnant) escalated to a fight and then struck the pregnant woman with her car. She is being charged with Assault with Intent to Murder. Just trying to get a fast food meal!
  • 28-year-old Detroiter, Antoine Davis just finished his parole after serving 4 years for armed robbery when he was sentenced to 18 months for having a credit-card skimmer. While on probation for that, he was arrested for fatally shooting a man at a gas station on W. Nichols.
  • A 60-year-old man was found fatally shot in his still-running Cadillac on Marlowe Street.
  • A Detroit car mechanic was shot twice by a customer upset over the price of a repair. The shop is on Glastonbury by Schoolcraft and the mechanic is listed in temporary serious condition.
  • The body of a 28-year-old woman from Ferndale was found burned in a vacant Detroit home on Young Street; her car is still missing.
  • A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg when a casual basketball game devolved into a fight, south of 7 Mile Road, east of Evergreen.
