Detroit Realities #809

A usual Detroit July 4th weekend with 11 people shot within 10 hours. What prompted these war-zone like casualties? Just traffic disputes to random drive-by shootings, to an argument about fireworks. Just another holiday weekend in the Thunderdome with bullets whizzing by

Nathaniel Abraham of Pontiac made national news when he was convicted of murder at age 11. Since his release, he has been convicted of 3 additional felonies. Now, at age 33, Abraham is going back to prison with yet another lenient sentence for selling meth and heroin to an undercover cop. While he could have received a life sentence for several reasons, the judge only sentenced him to 6-40 years.

What were you up to when you were age 31? Charles Phillips has been busy recently: a convicted felon on breaking and entering, who is on probation from fleeing from Police, just turned himself into the Detroit Police for shooting two people at a gas station. Phillips entered a gas station on Telegraph and shot a 13-year-old and 23-year-old before fleeing, both are listed in critical condition. Phillips turned himself in after police put his picture up all over Detroit media. Phillips has a tattoo on his forearm of “7 Mile,” which is likely to be a specific criminal gang in which he has membership.

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • An unidentified man’s body was found outside on Cedargrove Street in Detroit with multiple gunshot wounds. Police are searching for a person of interest.
  • Two Detroit men are in critical condition after being shot at separate parties, one on Marlborough Street and the other on Lesure Street.
  • There was a fight downtown on Woodward and Adams. The fight victim went to his car, got a gun, and started shooting, striking the man who had beat him up, before fleeing. The shooting victim is in stable condition.
  • A 23-year-old Detroit woman was shot while sitting on the porch of vacant home with some friends. They don’t know where the shots came from (or won’t say), and she is listed in temporary-serious condition.
  • A man visiting a Detroit barbershop on Beaconsfield was beaten and carjacked after an argument.
  • A double-shooting on I-94 in Detroit at Conner Street, a 25-year-old was shot in the head and another is listed in critical condition, Detroit Police are soliciting for leads.
