Detroit Realities #790

Talk about low-bail Detroit judges: Macomb County Trustee, Dino Bucci, was about to be tried on 18 counts of pay-to-play corruption when the judge allowed Bucci to vacation for a week in the Dominican Republic. Bucci is one of 22 defendants snared in a public corruption probe by the FBI.

Michigan State Trooper, Mark Bessner, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter when he tased 15-year-old Detroiter Damon while on a speeding ATV – who then crashed and died from his injuries. The 44-year-old Bessner has a history of poor judgement while working as a Trooper.

In other Michigan news:

1. Michael Anastasio was in state prison for armed robberies in Wayne and Macomb counties. He was murdered in prison by his cellmate.

2. At the Ypsilanti woman’s state prison, the facility failed to diagnose and treat a scabies outbreak for over a year. Hundreds of inmates suffered unbearable itching and scaring from the microscopic mites, and now there is a class-action lawsuit against the health company contracted by the facility. Scabies was diagnosed by a Flint doctor who read about their symptoms and visited the facility to confirm it.

3. The principal at W. Bloomfield High School banned food deliveries (like Uber Eats, GrubHub, and DoorDash) because they were getting 10-15 deliveries a day. He says the problem is strangers entering the building and they are responsible for any food problems or allergies.

4. Michigan added an expensive new requirement for marijuana dispensaries – all products must be medically tested but there are only a couple companies that do it. So dispensaries are expected to close or greatly increase their prices.

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • A 45-year-old drunk Detroiter was found crawling on the lawn of a vacant home, it turns out that he had been shot in the groin and is now at the hospital.
  • A Detroit gunman barricaded himself on Heyden. At 4:45am, a 12-year-old girl called 911 saying her mother was being beaten by her step-father. When police showed up, he answered the door, appeared drunk and threatened to shoot the officers. Detroit Police negotiators finally ended the situation and a woman and her 4 kids were safe.
  • 51-year-old Robert Montroy of Hamtramck robbed a couple elderly people at the same Walmart, and was arrested after he fled.
  • Back in 2015, a Detroit police raid to capture 20-year-old Terrance Kellom for robbing a pizza delivery man. The raid resulted in Kellom being fatally shot. His family just got the state Attorney General to investigate the shooting because of conflicting accounts of what occurred.
  • ATM skimmers to scam users numbers and pins have been discovered in and around Detroit – credit unions, gas stations, 7-11s, and more.
  • A Detroit woman was arrested after stabbing her boyfriend during a fight over bills at a home by 8 Mile Rd and the Lodge Fwy.
  • A 33-year-old Detroiter, Alonso Evans, lived near Livernois and 8 Mile Rd. Six months ago, Evans stepped outside of his home to make a phone call and was mugged by 2 teenagers who fatally shot him in the back. The killers were just caught and shockingly denied bond.
