A group of 220 pediatricians claim Wayne State University skimmed $60 million from them over the last 7 years that was due from Medicare procedures. The case is working its way through the courts as part of the physicians’ group bankruptcy.
The laws regarding African/Muslim female genital mutilation are so weak and poorly written, that the U.S. Attorney has dropped charges against a trio of Livonia doctors who performed the procedure on dozens of young girls since 2015.
Detroiter Anthony Carta is the owner of Freedom by Faith Ministries. He just plead guilty to running a mortgage scam, stealing $300,000 from 100 victims by promising (but never delivering) mortgage relief assistance. He has agreed to $658,000 in restitution and 9 years in prison.
Juan Garcia-Jimenez is a Canadian citizen who was born in Guatemala. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison for being a “coyote”, taking money to help immigrants illegally cross into the U.S. He would take them and have them walk a 17-inch wide path along an underground train tunnel from Windsor to Detroit.

- A 41-year-old riding a motorcycle in Detroit was killed in a Hit & Run by an old-model Cadillac that fled the scene. The accident was by Southfield Rd and Puritan Ave.
- Detroit police are searching for a thief, David White, who broke into a home at 4am, fatally shooting the 70-year-old owner on Mansfield.
- A 31-year-old Detroiter is in critical condition after being shot in the neck and head downtown by Woodward Ave.
- A 20-year-old man is in critical condition after being stabbed in Greektown, after a verbal dispute.
- A 40-year-old Detroiter was taken to the hospital after he drove himself home when he was shot on Schoolcraft. Police report he won’t talk about the circumstances of the shooting.
- 4 Detroiters were arrested after firing shots at ATF Agents on Detroit’s east side.
- 32-year-old Detroiter Dominique Rezende was arrested for filing a false report of a carjacking and abduction of her 4-year-old son; he was with his grandmother the entire time.
- A 42-year-old Detroiter was shot in the kneecap on Grand River and Greenfield in an argument over money. He was privately driven to the hospital and is in critical condition.
