Detroit Realities #786

Mayor Duggan is holding yet another press conference to stop illegal dumping of garbage in Detroit. The more construction there is in and around Detroit, the more the contractors illegally toss their waste in Detroit.

Detroit Mayor Duggan wants a whole new Surveillance system installed at street intersections, 1,000 of them city wide to fight crime. This is an addition to the $9 million for traffic surveillance. Critics say there is no data that supports the mayor’s claims from other cities that are already doing this type of surveillance.

The city of Detroit paid the family of 7-year Aiyana Jones $8.25 million. During an arrest raid, a Detroit Police officer shot her in the head while she laid on a sofa. The officer was tried twice for murder, both cases resulted in a hung jury. Geoffrey Fieger filed the civil suit for the family and the city settled just before the start of the trial.

  • By Gratiot and McNichols, a body was discovered inside a car that had been burned.
  • Detroit Police are searching for a shooter who injured a man on Greenfield sitting in a car at 7pm outside of a business.
  • This year there have been 30 cases of measles from unvaccinated people in SE Michigan, mostly in Detroit and along the corridor up Woodward
  • Detroit Police is searching for 29-year-old Tony Parker for stealing, mugging, and shooting at robbery victims at Detroit gas stations. Parker and his colleagues were not deterred at all by the Project Green Light surveillance cameras at mid-day for their activities.
  • Detroit Police quickly captured the shooter of a 30-year old man at noon on Woodward by Orchestra Hall. The injured man is listed in critical condition.
