Detroit Realities #626

A U.S. Customs Agent just plead guilty to bribery and fraud in relation to a pay-to-stay illegal immigration scam. Detroiter Clifton Divers said he conspired with Birmingham attorney, Charles Busse, to defer deportations for cash.

Pontiac’s 72-year-old Vernon Shepard is a career criminal who was just arrested for trying to break into a home in Royal Oak. The homeowner inside called 911 and Shepard was caught a couple blocks away. Shepard was on probation already and his extensive criminal record goes back to the 1970s.

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • A 6-year-old girl was dropped off at a Detroit school by her father. Before she could get to the school, she was attacked by 2 feral dogs. Luckily she only received scratches before her father took her inside himself. Animal Control found the dogs living at a vacant home near the school; they were likely abandoned by the owner of the home.
  • Crime stoppers are offering a $2,500 reward for information on the murder of a 24-year-old nurse, just north of Detroit in Sterling Heights.
  • Detroiter Anthony Banks was arrested for stealing $400 worth of lingerie at the Somerset Mall’s Victoria Secret store. When arrested, Banks had multiple fake IDs and fraudulent credit cards. Once fingerprinted, they found he lied about his name and age, he has 8 aliases, and identity theft convictions going back 11 years.
