Police Arrest Three Following Gang-related Funeral Procession

Members of the Head Hunters and other gangs were paying respects to Charles Anthony Pongi, 32, who died in early August after he was shot at a Point England park.

Earlier in the day, dozens of mourners had gathered to hold a Funeral service at Tipene Funerals Ōnehunga.

Afterwards, members of the Head Hunters, King Cobras, and Hells Angels were seen entering the Manukau Memorial Gardens.

Tāmaki Makaurau assistant commissioner Sam Hoyle said in a statement Friday that police would have an increased presence in parts of the city during the weekend “to monitor gang movements relating to a funeral taking place”.

“While we understand people need to grieve, this should be done without putting the wider community’s safety at risk,” he said.
