Ryan (Big Red) Daigneault, former president of the London Outlaws Motorcycle Club, appeared in a London court by video link Tuesday. He was remanded in custody pending an appearance Friday.
Daigneault, 46, was arrested last Thursday and charged with assault causing bodily harm after an alleged attack on a woman earlier in the day, according to court documents.
Daigneault was one of 10 people swept up two years ago in Project Weaver, an eight-month probe of gun and drug trafficking in Southwestern Ontario led by the OPP’s biker enforcement unit. The investigation targeted four alleged criminal organizations, including the Outlaws Motorcycle Club in London.
Investigators seized a weapons cache, including 31 guns, 81 grenades, two grenade launchers, 22 other prohibited devices, three explosive projectiles, 98 kilograms of cannabis, 16 kg of magic mushrooms, 10 kg of cocaine, more than two kg of hashish, 715 grams of MDMA, one Outlaws vest, eight vehicles and $130,000, police said at the time.
The case against Daigneault, who faces a dozen drug and weapons charges, and two co-accused have been sent to Superior Court, where a trial has yet to be scheduled.
In June, one person charged in Project Weaver, Sean Sutherland, 33, of Ancaster, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to eight charges.
