Retrial of a Pontiac man accused in a 2019 shooting at a motorcycle club that left one dead and another injured

Testimony got underway Friday morning in Oakland County Circuit Court in the retrial of a Pontiac man accused in a 2019 Shooting at a Motorcycle Club that left one dead and another injured.

Gregory Kincade, 44, is charged with open murder for the death of Mecca Shea Ramsey, and assault with intent to commit murder for the shooting of Malcolm Chambers at the Night Riders Motorcycle Club in Pontiac on April 27, 2019. Ramsey, shot eight times in the back and twice in the chest, was found dead in a restroom at around 3:30 a.m. He was 41 years old.

Chambers, then age 37, was shot in the arm and sustained a grazing wound to the forehead.

Kincade is also charged with firearms offenses.

In opening statements, assistant prosecutor Rob Novy said he’s confident evidence will show Kincade is guilty of firing a 9mm semi-automatic at the two victims, killing Ramsey and wounding Chambers. He also said Chambers will be among the witnesses called to testify.

Defense attorney Jerome Sabbota said it’s a case of “scientific evidence versus witness evidence,” and that while “eyewitness testimony can change, facts can’t.” Sabbota also said there’s no solid proof that the handgun presented as evidence is the one used in the shootings as it’s an extremely common, easily-obtained model.

The first witness to testify Friday was Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy Brian Wilson, who recounted arriving at the motorcycle club on a report of a shooting to find a chaotic scene in and around the parking lot, where people “in excess of 40 to 50 cars” were scrambling to leave the area. Inside the club was more chaos, he said, as people screamed and fought with each other as he made his way to the men’s bathroom where the shooting occurred. A few men were in the bathroom and Ramsey was lying on the floor near a toilet, beyond help.

Next to Ramsey’s body was a “corner tie” — a small plastic bag commonly used for heroin and cocaine — he said. Several blood splatters, as well as spent bullets and cartridges, were spread across the floor, he said.
