Explore the Beauty of Budapest (by Bence Szokoly)

Budapest is the capital of Hungary and also the new party capital of Europe mainly Western Europeans. In the past decade the city has started to attract a lot of young people to celebrate some kind of special occasion in Budapest. It is still a bit cheaper than most of the bigger European cities and there is an amazing nightlife in the center. There is an area in the old district filled with so-called ruin pubs which are inside of old abandoned buildings. They have such cool atmosphere, they are easy-going, retro, lively, you can party there or have just a nice glass of wine or you can go out for a trendy or traditional dinner with the family.

This is definitely compulsory for every visitor but there is so much more to see. First of all, they say Budapest is the Venice of Eastern Europe and who doesn’t like Venice, it is beautiful. Well, Budapest is no different. It is divided into two parts (Buda and Pest) by River Danube. It has breathtaking views one the several bridges crossing the river. Take for example Margaret bridge from where you can see the Buda Castle and the Parlaiment and also you can go to Margaret Island if you want to have a walk in a huge green area surrounded by water.

Without doubt, the most fascinating building in Hungary is the Parlaiment. It lies on the bank of the river, on the Pest side. It is huge and looks really cool and fun fact: apparently it is the second heaviest building in Europe after the parliament of Romania. You can even go inside at certain times to have a look around and see where our politicians make those big decisions. A little advice: if you want to make nice pictures, go to the other side of the river, just opposite of Parliament, it offers the best views for selfies and other type of pictures. My grandmother lives in that street so I know what I am talking about.

Another compulsory thing to do here, and it is just a short walk from here, is to check out the Buda Castle which is on the top of a hill in the middle of the city. There are a lot of historical buildings and even museums up there, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon here wandering around. If you are feeling tired to walk down from here, you can take the funicular for just a little amount of money. This will take you by the very famous Chain Bridge and on the way, it will offer you great views on the other side of the river including the very exclusive Four Seasons Hotel.

The possibilities are almost endless in Budapest. You certainly need at least 4-5 days to cover a fair amount of sights that need visiting. Make sure you spend a few relaxing hours in one of the many thermal baths in the city, they are all in traditional building providing very special atmosphere.

I am a Hungarian guy currently living in Spain. I have lived in London for over 5 years, but a few months ago I decided to move to Spain in order to see the sun for an extended period of time of the year (unlike in London). I love it here, the food is amazing, I could talk about just the food for hours. And of course, the weather is much better than in London, I can wear shorts and T-shirts in November, how great is that!
