Banzai: A Teppanyaki Theater Buffet and A Giveaway

Are you ready to feast on some Japanese fare?

Aside from other food blogs, when I'm curious about a restaurant, I usually check it out on Zomato. If you're still not familiar with Zomato, it's this website that has every information you need about restaurants. They have the usual type of cuisine, opening hours, location, and contact numbers, and they also have a visual copy of the menu, reviews, and photos of the food and establishment.

Another cool feature of Zomato is their Collections, which gives you a list of popular restaurants across a specific theme. So if you're say, looking for a sports bar to watch the World Cup with friends, or a romantic restaurant to bring your girlfriend for your anniversary, or even restaurants open 24 hours to satisfy an odd-hour craving, the Collections presents you with several recommendations.

Not only are they informative, Zomato is pretty generous, too. They've given me some GCs to try out one of the newest Japanese buffet places in Manila -- Banzai: The Great Teppanyaki Theater. Banzai is located at the MOA Complex, where rows of restaurants and buffet places are also situated; think Vikings and Buffet 101.

Prices:
Adults: P699 from Mondays to Fridays lunch
P899 from Mondays to Fridays dinner
P1,088 for Saturday, Sunday, and holidays
Children: P499 - below 4.5 feet
              FREE - below 3.5 feet
Leftovers: P1,288
Rates are inclusive of service charge.

They also have a promo: for every 5 full-paying guests, another guest dines for free. Plus you also get to eat for free during your birthday week, provided you're accompanied by 3 full-paying adults.

So my husband and I went to check out the place. Unfortunately, we went there pretty late so the platters in the buffet set-up weren't brimming with food as they should have been if we were early, I suppose. Still, there were plenty of food choices to go around.

There was a salad bar and a bread station. I was happy with the cold soba noodles offered, too. Of course, there's sushi and sashimi, although the lack of identification made it pretty challenging to decide which one to get. And so we just left it to chance, and agreed that there were hits and misses.

There are the familiar tempura and tonkatsu station, yakitori station, gyoza and roasting station. The ramen station dishes out pretty good noodles and broth; go for the Tantanmen, or if you want something sans the kick, order a bowl of Tonkotsu ramen. Skip the takoyaki station, it has way too much batter, I couldn't taste the filling if it ever had one. But I do love their pizza station with unusual flavors.

Their theater lead is the teppanyaki station, ready to churn out meat and seafood grilled the teppanyaki way. The cooks are gracious enough to offer to serve you fresh, hot ones off the griddle so you can truly enjoy the stellar dishes. Oh, and they a beverage station as well, with a number of soda flavors, juice, coffee, tea, and cold Milo.

For dessert, take your pick from several petits fours, ice cream, halo-halo, bread pudding, ginataan, fresh fruits, and even snow cones.
