Animals have various form, shape, pattern, and colors. Some of them may be bizarre and not appealing, some of them may be loved once you see it for the first time. Among the animals, there are black and white animals that come from various Animal species.

This color combination is so unique because it is not very related to the color of nature such as green, brown, or yellow. This article will give you some insight regarding what kind of animals that have black and white color.  

Here are various animals with black and white patterns that you see frequently on TV and around your living area. 

1. Albatross

It is an amazing view when you see a flying albatross several meters above sea water. Compared to the other birds, the albatross has the widest wingspan. It can reach up to 11 feet, so its wingspan is taller than an average human body.

The wide wingspan is needed by the albatross. This is because this bird often times travel at an amazing distance. The wingspan helps the albatross to ride the ocean winds and glide for hours, without putting too much effort to flap their wings.

When the albatross needs to eat, it will float on the sea surface to catch fishes. This bird drink salt water, like some of the other seabirds.   

2. Lemur

As an endemic animal of Madagascar, Africa, lemur is a tiny animal that lives during the night. As a nocturnal animal, lemur usually hunts for other nocturnal animals, mainly insects. It lives on the rainforest tree in Madagascar and it can’t be found in any other region around the world.

The black-white pattern can be found in a lemur species called ring-tailed lemur. It has long tails and a clear black and white stripes on the tail. You may see this animal on your local zoo.

3. Giant Panda

This big black and white panda is a national icon of the People’s Republic of China. It is also the iconic symbol of the WWF organization since it is found in 1961. As an adorable animal, the panda has been hunted by irresponsible people, which make this animal in an endangered status.

This animal lives in high mountains on Western China. Specifically, panda lives in a bamboo forest because it is its favorite food. Panda needs 26 to 84 pounds of bamboo every day as its daily food supplies. Its wrist bones are the most formidable weapon.

A newborn panda has a very small size, around 1/900th of its mother size. It can grow from up to 330 pounds. Despite the size, the panda is a great tree climber.  

4. Zebra

Zebra is an iconic animal of the savanna. It usually lives in a very large pack. Because zebra lives in a group, it has good coordination in almost everything, especially when it has to escape from the predator such as lion, cheetah, or crocodile.

The diet of a zebra is herbivore so it mostly eats grass and plants. A fun fact, although the stripes are similar, each zebra has a different pattern just like the human fingerprint.

5. Killer Whale

A killer whale or orca is the king of cold water in the North and South. But, this animal can also be found in warmer sea water. It is similar to dolphins and the world agree that the killer whale is the most powerful predators.

The killer whale usually lives in a group, but when hunting, it can hunt in a group or individually. Compared to the other predators, the killer whale has the highest intelligence. This animal preys on marine mammals such as sea lions, seals, and small whales. Aside from that, it also eats squid, seabirds, and fish.

6. Malayan Tapir

The Malayan tapir is the only tapir species that lives in Asia. This animal usually found in the rainforest. The Malayan tapir lives alone or usually consist of the mother and its baby. The baby Malayan tapir usually has brown fur with white spots.

The combination of color allows the Malayan tapir to have a greater camouflage to avoid a predator. The camouflage will work better when the Malayan tapir lives in a deeper rainforest that have thicker trees and bushes. The white and black color of the Malayan tapir break its shape to make it looks like a rock or random object.

To be honest, the white tiger is not a special species called the white tiger. It is a variant of the Bengal tiger. But, most people still believe that the white tiger is an albino tiger from a certain tiger species. This specific gene of the Bengal Tiger has a lighter appearance, make its skin white and called the White Tiger.

Because of that, its biological term is Panthera tigris. This animal has a similar behavior and diet with a normal tiger. As for the appearances, it has blue eyes, rose-pink noses, and white and black stripes.

Skunk is a very disgusting animal for some people. This is because it can spray a very pungent and stinky liquid from around its anus. This smelly spray is hard to remove. This animal usually lives in a burrow constructed by other animals. But, some skunks may live in a hollow log or unused buildings.

Like other mammals in sub-tropic and cold climate, the skunk will do hibernation. It will stay on its nest for several weeks after it collects enough food for the harsh winter. Each year, the skunk will give birth to two and ten newborns in each year.

The osprey or people usually acknowledge it as a Seahawk, is a North American raptor that hunts fish as its main food. The bird will dive into the water and catch any unlucky fish. It is often times found soaring the sky along the shorelines, patrolling waterways, or it just standing on its huge stick nest.

The major part of its inner part of the body has a white color while the outer part has a brown or blacker color. Human and the Osprey has a good relationship and this animal won’t disturb human that much. When an osprey is hunting, it needs a great amount of concentration and diving with outstretched feed, along with sharp yellow eyes that stare at the talons and its prey.

Badger is an omnivore that has grayish fur mixed with black and white stripes, usually located on the head. This animal loves to dig, so you may find it on a burrow, creating its nest. The overall characteristic of badger’s body is very suitable for digging. Its body is short, stout, and flattened for some reason.

With stout and short legs, this build makes badger easily dig the ground. It has long and curved foreclaws and the hind claws have a shape similar to a shovel. This animal hates attention so it tends to hide under the ground. It can grow between 24 to 30 inches, with a tail length around 4 to 6 inches. As for the weight, an adult badger can weigh around 26 pounds.

Most loons are migratory birds that breed on a forested lake or large pond. This bird can be found easily in Greenland, North America, and Iceland.

The Royal Palm Turkey is a variant of chicken turkey. This species of turkey is recognized by the American Poultry Association in 1971. Until these recent days, this animal is listed as critical by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. Its appearance is mostly black and white.

The black color can be found on its breast and tail. White is the main color of the entire body. This turkey also has a black beard and either red or bluish head and wattles.

It can weigh around 60 pounds, so the Siberian Husky is smaller and lighter than its close sibling, the Alaskan Malamute. Because originally a Siberian Husky lives in a pack, it can go well with other dogs and enjoy family life. In general, the color of Siberian Husky is a mix of black, white, and gray.

But its favorite prey is a warm-blooded prey such as rodents and birds. As for the cold-blooded prey, the Californian snake loves to eat lizards and frogs.

If you want to have a California snake as a pet, you should keep the temperature where you place the snake around 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. As for the cage, you can use a more dense cage so that it won’t slip out of it.

The Dutch rabbit is considered as the oldest rabbit breeds compared to the others. As a pet, this rabbit is also the most popular across the entire region. But, the exact origin of this rabbit breed is unclear. Some say it is from England or the Netherlands. This rabbit breed starts to be known by people in the 19th century.

This rabbit breed also has other names, which are Hollander or Brabander. In terms of size, this rabbit breed has a very small size but it is not as small as the dwarf rabbit breed. The Dutch rabbit loses its popularity because of the emergence of the dwarf rabbits throughout the world.

This breed has been officially registered by the British Rabbit Council and the American Rabbit Breeders Association. Today, you can see the Dutch rabbit as either a show animal or pet.

The zebra longwing butterfly has a biological name Heliconius charitonia. It has distinctive long and narrow wings with black and pale yellow stripes. This butterfly species is commonly found around the Mexico and Central America.

You can see a lot of this butterfly species in Florida and some areas in Texas. Because it is so common in Florida, in 1996, the zebra longwing butterfly is used as the state butterfly.

The black and white colobus almost has no thumb. As for the appearance, this animal has a glossy black coat, with white color around its face and rump. A newborn black and white colobus don’t have any black color on its body. Through times, the black pattern will come out. The nose of this animal is nearly touching its mouth.

Egyptian Mau is a cat breed usually has white fur with black dots across the entire body. It has a triangular shaped head and large almond eyes. It also has slightly shaped ears. When you first see this cat breed, you will see that this cat’s appearance pose no threat and very gentle.

The Mau has a coat with medium length with glossy and soft texture. Many people love this cat because of its gentle appearance and the beauty of the fur pattern.

The bald-faced hornet has a biological name Dolichovespula maculata It is a large wasp with black and white color usually found in North America. Although the name is the hornet, the bald-faced hornet is not purely a hornet because it is considered as the member of the “yellow jacket” group, while a hornet is a wasp species under the Vespa genus.

The size of this animal varies from three-quarters of an inch to just over an inch and it can’t grow bigger or smaller than that. The queens have larger size while the workers are shorter compared to the queen. It has a black hairless body with a white pattern on the face and thorax. It also has three distinctive white stripes around the abdomen.
