Peak UK Chart Position: #1 in January 1997.

Arguably not a genuine one-hit wonder – a follow-up track entitled “Undressed” was to Peak at number 57 four months later – White Town was essentially Derby-based Jyoti Mishra, who also celebrates his 50th birthday today.

Mishra had originally formed White Town in 1989 as a proper band who played as a support act to Primal Scream, among others. However, it wasn’t long before it became a one-man project, releasing sporadic singles, EPs and albums – as recently as 2015.

“Your Woman” reached number one in Spain as well as the UK, and went top five in ten further countries. Here’s the video, with various outdoor scenes filmed in Derby, and kindly uploaded to YouTube by Mishra himself.
