Chris Isaak – Wicked Game (Music Video/TOTP)

Peak UK Chart Position: #10 in December 1990.

Who?: American singer and, occasionally, actor. Born on this day 1956, so he’s 60 today.

Then: Five years after his first Album, containing a mixture of blues and ballads, and three years after “Blue Hotel” reached #100 in the UK (subsequently re-released with greater success), “Wicked Game” was featured – albeit in instrumental form – in the David Lynch film “Wild At Heart”. American radio finally cottoned on to the vocal version, appearing on Isaak’s 1989 album “Heart Shaped World”.

Now: He performed at the 2015 AFL Grand Final, Alongside Ellie Goulding and Bryan Adams. He was also (last year) a judge on the seventh series of The X-Factor Australia, alongside James Blunt, Guy Sebastian and Dannii Minogue.

Random fact: John Peel memorably stood in for Jakki Brambles on Radio 1’s lunchtime show for a week back in 1993. On playing Chris Isaak’s then current tune “Can’t Do A Thing (To Stop Me)”, Peel stopped the track halfway through, proclaiming: “That’s just where you’re wrong, pal. I can take the CD off and throw it as far as I possibly can. That’s what happens when you get a computer to write your songs.”

Here’s the very memorable video featuring Helena Christensen, followed by a mimed Top of the Pops performance – but… THAT SUIT!!!
