Peak UK Chart Position: #4 in April 1997.

Born in Turkey, but moving to Germany at a young age, Orhan Terzi had a massive European hit under the moniker DJ Quicksilver with what was, in many countries, a double-A sided single. On one side was the Martin Luther King-sampling “I Have A Dream”, a track with a slightly harder edge to its trance sound compared to the very radio friendly “Bellissima”, which was at number seven in the UK on this day in 1997. Across Europe, it performed best in Ireland, getting to number two, and Spain, where it peaked at three. Both tracks were produced by Terzi and Tommaso De Donati. The videos to both tracks were directed by the brilliantly-named Volker Hannwacker.

“Bellissima” would end up being certified gold in the UK, and despite only peaking as high as number four (where it spent two weeks), it ranked at number 24 on the Chart of the year, selling 440,000 copies. Two further singles achieved chart success on the British charts; “Free” peaked at number seven in September 1997, and “Planet Love” at number 12 in February 1998. Terzi also managed to chart under the alias Watergate (again with the help of De Donati), with trance track “Heart Of Asia”, which got to number three in the UK in May 2000.

Incidentally, Terzi’s stage name of DJ Quicksilver derives from his days taking part in DJ contests, where a mercury column would gauge audience reaction.
