Peak UK Chart Position: #4 in February 1992.

The Pasadenas

Quick facts:

  • “I’m Doing Fine Now” was originally a UK number 20 hit in 1973 for American R&B vocal group New York City.
  • The track was their biggest hit in the UK, surpassing the number five peak of debut “Tribute (Right On)” – although they did feature on the chart-topping 1989 Band Aid II version of “Do They Know Its Christmas?”
  • In April 2005 the Pasadenas took part in week three of the TV reality show, ‘Hit Me, Baby, One More Time’, a heat which was won by T’pau’s Carol Decker.
  • “I’m Doing Fine Now” was at number four on this day in 1992, spending its second of four weeks there. It ended up as the 28th best-seller of the year.

Here’s their live Top of the Pops show-opener from January 30th 1992, as repeated on TOTP2.
