Ol’ Dirty Bastard featuring Kelis – Got Your Money (Music Video)

  • Joe Leeway, conga and bongo player, plus songwriter and backing vocalist for the Thompson Twins (“You Take Me Up” #2 and “Doctor Doctor” #3 in 1984) is 61 today.
  • Chad Kroeger, Nickelback frontman (“Rockstar” #2 in 2007, “How You Remind Me” #4 in 2002), and ex-husband of Avril Lavigne, turns 42 today.
  • Petula Clark, born Sally Olwen Clark and a performer since the age of seven (“Sailor” #1 in 1961, “This Is My Song” #1 in 1967, “Downtown” #2 in 1964 and [remixed] #10 in 1988), is 85 today.

Plus, Russell Tyrone Jones was born on this day in 1968. Known more affectionately as Ol’ Dirty Bastard (or ODB for short), his other monickers include BZA, Ason Unique, Osirus, The Specialist, Dirt McGirt, Big Baby Jesus, Young Dirty, Ol’ Dirty Blocks, Dirt Dog, RJ Tha Mad Specialist, Joe Bananas, and Tha Ol’ Dirty Chinese Restaurant. His first success of note was a guest appearance on the ‘Bad Boy’ remix of Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” in 1995, alongside Puff Daddy. He was also a founder member of New York hip-hop group the Wu-Tang Clan, who charted in the UK with “Gravel Pit” in 2000.

ODB died of an accidental drug overdose, two days short of his 36th birthday in 2004. “Got Your Money” was his only UK chart success taking lead credit, with Kelis also appearing as featured vocalist.
