Sunday, a sermon?

Tags: book dude

Today a bit (might though be long) about Dudeism, the world's slowest growing religion. The Church of the Latter-Day Dude (the official name) teaches its most important and basic principle: "Just take it easy, Man". This, of course, includes also ladies.

"The Dude De Ching"  is one of the Holy Books of the Church. It is based on the 81 verses of "The Tao Te Ching" by Lao Tzu, adapted for our beliefs, and Joel and Ethan Coen's movie "The Big Lebowski" with Jeff Bridges. On the right column of the blog, you have the link which permits you to ready it online.

"The Abide Guide" is THE book that will teach you to be able to just take it easy. Among others, the book gives you the seven spiritual laws of taking it easy, it talks about Great Dudes who changed the world and did not really try to do so. It explains the way of the Dude applied to politics, ethics and finances. It also has a new feminist philosophy for special ladies. So, the next time life throws you a gutterball, just pick the book and ask "What would the Dude do?". The book has the answer for everything.

Now we are all anxiously waiting for our new sacred book to be published:

"The Tao of the Dude" will be the essential guide for practicing Dudeists to keep their minds limber and avoid uptight thinking.

The book will consist of collected quotes from great Dudeist thinkers throughout history. It addresses various subjects near and dear to the Dudeist heart, such as conflict ("This Aggression Will Not Stand"), leisure ("Just Take it Easy Man") and tolerance ("That’s Just, Like, Your Opinion, Man"). Featuring luminaries like Bertrand Russell, Lao Tzu, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Kurt Vonnegut and many many more, this collection makes it plain that Dudeism is a creed that has existed down through the ages.

Each chapter features inspiring and thought-provoking introductory essays by Oliver Benjamin (the founder of Dudeism) which discuss how each topic is realized in The Big Lebowski and in other works of art and philosophy throughout history.

Currently, we’re looking for contributors who would like to contribute quotes, passages from books (both fiction and non-fiction) and other tidbits of interesting insight that can help to illuminate the Dudeist way of thinking.

Submissions can be sent here. If you know of a really great quote but you don’t know who said or wrote it, send it on anyway and maybe we can figure it out.

Folks whose contributions are particularly noteworthy will recieve a free copy of the book. However, everyone who contributes material that ends up in the final copy will have their name listed in an appendix.

Here are some of the topics/chapters that will be in the book:
