Look! A post!

Well, someone asked about my lack of posting, so I just thought I'd clear a few things up and maybe even put up some news (even though the only people who read this are those I go to first thing with news). No, I didn't change the URL; some stuff happened and it became unecessary.

First off, my heart goes out to those down south who are the victims of Katrina. I know at least one person down there; and my friend from Louisiana, Valtindil, I hope all is well with you, your family, and girlfriend and that I'll see you online soon so I know you're safe. One of my churches (Trinity Methodist) is gathering care kits, which are little bundles of things such as toiletries, school supplies, or money, many of which will be sent down south to help with the Katrina victims. I don't have the list available at this moment, but if you are intersted in participating, I'll contact someone with the lsit, send it to you, and you can give those items to me at some point and I'll take them to the church.

Speaking of churches. Last year, I went to FUM (First United Methodist). However, it didn't quite offer everything I was looking for, so the first Sunday of this semester, I went out to scour downtown in search of another church. I happened to be sniffing around outside Trinity when one of the members found me and invited me in. The way I was immediately enfolded in their ranks and introduced to everyone, even though they'd never seen me before, made me feel extremely welcome. The sermon also took an angle that I had been missing at FUM, even though it didn't include the historical information and facts that were the base of FUM's. Neither of them quite fit me such as the Church of God I would occassionally attend at home did, but as they are two different factions, that's not to be surprising. I was immediately claimed for the choir, in which I met a grad student named Josh, who is one of the sweetest guys I've ever met and happens to be focused in composition. He sings like Josh Groban (irrelevant in this point, but still pretty cool) and plays the violin like an angel, so I suggested we do a violin duet sometime together, and he eagerly agreed. It also turns out we both feel bogged down with homework and both love caffine (paritcularly Grounds for Thoughts), so we exchanged numbers and he is to call me at some point this week for coffee. It makes me rather sad that I'm leaving that church for a semester to help the alto's in FUM's chamber choir, but they said they would welcome me back whenever I could return and Josh said he'd keep in touch.

What else. Well, my birthday's today, but since I came down with a nasty cold (let me put it this way: I used up the equivalent of an entire box of tissues in one day and am still going at them), I've decided to celebrate it next weekend instead. I'll be sure and bring up what's left of the (very chocolate) cake to share here at college. =P Thanks to everyone who sent cards/wrote on my wall/IM'ed me with a Happy Birthday. ^_^

And btw, chocolate and apple juice simply don't mix. Don't ask.

Classes. other than one dud English professor, classes seem to be going very well so far. Most of my professors are young, easy-going, and funny. Nothing has really been giving me a challenge so far, so I'm kinda slacking off and riding my own knowledge through what's been going on until I feel the need to dig in and actually study. Although the reading for my Victorian Women class is necessary in the long run, in the short run I've found that I can get by on my already-extensive knowledge of the period to participate in class enough to hide my status as a procrastinating slacker, then do the reading over the weekend or when I happen to have a moment with nothing to do in. Yes, I'm a terrible student, particularly when bored with something, and I like to give my professors a difficult time when I don't feel they're measuring up to standard. Luckily, there have only been a few such as that so far. The only class I can't really do that for is ice skating, because some of the other students truly are having difficult times mastering particular moves, even if I do learn it in an instant and then get restless for something else to do. One of these days, she'll probably yell at me for messing around and trying new stuff out on intuition while waiting on everyone else . . . But otherwise, Craft of Fiction, the history of England, Victorian Women, Ancient Greek Philosophy, UCS (Choir), and ice skating are all awesome. The only dud class is ancient literature, and that's because half the time the professor is disclaiming this or that and never actually talks about the literature itself. Either that or the class gets dragged into a theological debate over the interpretation of a biblical piece and he just sort of stands to the side because he doesn't have in-depth knowledge on the religious implications beyond the historical facet. (Did I just compose that sentence? Yeesh, maybe it's time to go back to bed . . .) On a more positive note, a student from both my English classes gave me his phone number after introducing himself, so maybe something positive will come out of that. A study partner and someone else to drink coffee with.

Turns out Rogers isn't that bad a place to live despite its reputation as one notch above Mac. Chili's, the local convenience store, hasn't had any raspberry iced tea for days now, so I'm looking forward to getting a case when they come in and working my way through it within a matter of days. I've been living on green tea; and though it's good, it just doesn't cut it the same way. At least living next to Chili's Deli has caused better eating habits. =P I'm too lazy to walk to the Sundial or Union every time I want food.

Well, I guess that's all there is to say so far as an update. Although I'm really not feeling social at all and am downright depressed (pun intended) and heartsick for reasons many of you may know, I appreciate the support so many of you are giving me. I know it's difficult to put up with me at times because it's difficult to deter me once my heart is set on something, and I tend to hang on like a bull dog to things I should let go. Especially when whatever it is won't let me go. At some point, I'll post my story about the trucker named Terry, (I promise, Ben, that I'll get around to it) my first trip to BW3's in BG, and more BK stories.

And now, to go crash . . . tschuessi!
