Portrait of a Girl as she Appears

This sort of thing has always facinated me--taking a person and by their appearance and the all of what they have with them at the moment and determining what conclusions can be made of that person at that moment. I've often done this with myself at random times, and have come to good and not-so-desirable conclusions. Unfortunately, not every Joe on the street is willing to undergo this voluntarily. Today, I decided to finally do it formally (and put it up here since this blog has been largely neglected lately), and discovered something important . . . It's time to clean out the satchel! . . . Maybe.

Sunday, November 13th, 2005, 11:15AM on the fourth floor of the Student Union

The girl herself: young; early 20's; slender; fit. Dressed nicely in a tan, thread-embroidered, button-down, collared dress shirt; black slacks; Brown jacket. Black slouch socks pulled straight; worn, red-brown dress shoes. Inexpensive but nice-looking watch. Silver cross with flowers and leaves on a silver chain. Sad, murky, color-shifting/changing grey eyes; long, straight, brown hair; expressive face--wears her heart on her sleeve. No unnatural appearance of make-up; everything clean and neat. Carrying a cup of tazo chai tea and a green and brown computer satchel.

In the main compartment: a spiral notebook with only two pages filled--with directions to a house and this description; a church bulletin for today; package of tissues; burned CD that was a gift; complete Book of translated Grimms' Fairy Tales.

In front zipper: an ice arena schedule, BG ID card; brush; comb; cell phone; Cough Drops; chapstick; pumpkin sucker; various scraps of paper with jotted notes; yellow and pink highlighters; $5 bill, forgotten lipstick; seven pens of various make; five pencils--four of one kind and one different; large binder clip; small post-its; small crochet needle; two pre-paid copy machine cards; blue and red post-it page markers; hair tie; tweezers; library card; keys; floppy disk; pieces of zipper that fell off; high school musical ticket; various receipts; a smooth rock; coffee grounds card; unknown toy camera keychain thing (no earthly idea where that came from, what it is, why or how it's in my satchel or how long it's been there); loose change; bookmark; ice skating project requirements with scribbled
choreography.

In the pockets behind front flap: two yellow highlighters; a wooden pencil; three floppy disks; four Lipton ice tea caps; old book request forms from former job in hometown library; bag with cough drops; sanitary pads.

Now, check yourself at some random point in the day, write down how you appear and what you're carrying, and post it under comments. I think you'll be surprised when you step back and look at yourself as you might at a picture or an objective figure (if that made sense to anyone else).
