Self Care for Digital Divas


Who says you have to be chained to your computer all the time?

One of the big topics of conversation amongst the freelancers I know is how to take care of yourself when you don't work 9 to 5. Many of us are into yoga, meditation, and various forms of outdoor exercise to try and keep mind, body and soul on the right track. But there's a tendency to slack off during deadline crunch and the next thing you know, you're stiff, you can't sleep, you don't feel productive, and you're wondering what the hell happened.

Sandy and I had the right idea this week. We met for lunch at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel (a table on the Snug's patio, overlooking the ocean), then ambled down to their waterfront spa for the rest of the afternoon. For $50 you can use the outdoor mineral pools for three hours. Sandy had a pedicure, which included as much time as she wanted in the pools.

So we swam, we soaked, we sunbathed, we rested.

Did we talk business? Of course!


As an exercise in self-care it was the most restorative Friday afternoon I've had in ages. Must rinse and repeat often.
