A world-class cocktail experience

The World’s 50 Best Bars selected Cause Effect Cocktail Kitchen as one of the planet’s best bars. Connoisseurs and foodies will already be familiar with the World’s 50 Best Bars. The comprehensive list celebrates the crème de la crème of fine-drinking establishments.

In 2019, the list was doubled to include bars ranking from 51-100.

South Africans will be pleased to know that Cape Town’s favourite venue placed at number 75 on the prestigious list. 

Leah van Deventer, The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy Chair for South Africa, was absolutely thrilled with the news. Deventer noted Cause Effect has “an excellent training programme in place,” to offer the world’s best cocktail experience. 

Kurt Schlechter, co-owner of Cause Effect said it was great to be included in the prestigious list. Striving to deliver a word-class offering, the bar achieved a coveted place among the world’s top venues. Schlechter urged Africans to get more bars in the listing.  

Cause Effect Cocktail Kitchen upping Africa’s collective cocktail game

South Africa featured only six times in The World’s 50 Best Bars list since it started in 2009. However, this is set to change thanks to Cause Effect’s new status. Cape Town’s venue achieved global recognition, which will inspire other bars to improve their collective cocktail game. Participants agreed that “it’s vital that South Africa – and Africa in at large – participates more actively in global awards, as judges and as potential honourees.”

Last Thursday, the 1–50 honourees were announced live on YouTube and Facebook.
