A Quick Stop Over In Naples

Making a quick stop over in Naples (Italy, not Florida), heading over to Palermo, Sicily.

I’m glad is was ‘quick’….and so will be this post.

Perhaps it’s just where the hotel was located? But, I really didn’t get a good feel or anything from Naples.

If it weren’t for being a jumping off place for Sicily, I wouldn’t want to be here.

The streets are a bit dingy (I’m being nice), it’s overcrowded and all along the sidewalk is undesirous hawkers imploring pedestrian’s to buy their goods. Very uncomfortable.

It’s a short walk from the train and bus stations, which made it convenient.

The one thing I did enjoy at this point more than anything was the ‘pizza’!!

I have other pics, but I must have filed them in a different folder!! Maybe. I was real tired from Pompeii right off the heels of Rome (where in one day I walked in excess of 8 miles!) so I was more interested in resting before getting to Sicily. But just like any other stop, I put my bags down and hit the streets!

Oh, the hotel!!! A strange one. Easy to find, right off the main boulevard on the right. It was supposed to have a lift! I’m not seeing it in what I thought was the lobby. But, just like in Rome, the lobby is on a different floor and the ‘hotel’ is just one floor of this building!

Naples, Italy

Now, I’m having to carry the luggage up this ungodly gauntlet of steps….3 floors!!! I’m up 2 when the owner’s son asked me how come I didn’t use the elevator!!! I’m even less happy now! I explained that I looked, and looked, and looked some more for an elevator which I couldn’t find. Well, it’s a service elevator on another side of the building and it cost 20 Euro Cents to use it!! The cost, while odd was irrelevant! I just needed an elevator. The son carried my luggage the remainder of the way.

Here’s a bit about Naples. Naples is the regional capital of Campania and the third-largest municipality in Italy after Rome and Milan.

Naples’ historic city center is the largest in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, having a wide range of culturally and historically significant sites nearby, including the Palace of Caserta and the Roman ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Naples is also known for its natural beauties such as Posillipo, Phlegraean Fields, and Nisida.

So, there is a lot to see….and maybe I need to make a return visit to a different area of the city.

Nice room!! Not too roomy but comfortable. And, it had a view….see the pic below.

I think hotels.com really needs to set a standard for their definition of ‘hotel’.

I’m only here to catch a flight out tomorrow….I’ll survive.

On my way to Palermo, Sicily….see ya tomorrow!

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
