I’ve Bought An RV! (Recreational Vehicle)

I’ve got an RV!

Hi everyone! I’ve been absent for a while just doing little things, lots of downtime.

I still have more of Europe to show, but for now…..it’s my RV!

This doesn’t mean that I won’t be traveling abroad anymore. All this means is now I’ll be seeing some of the States between jaunts abroad.

It’s a used RV with a Ford engine and chasie, has about 73,000 miles on it and costs me less than $200 a year for insurance. I’ve got no note because I paid cash for it, right at the top of my cash limit (I would have liked to have done half of that, but…..”it is what it is” (to quote P.J.).

I had already made up my mind to purchase this particular RV knowing that I’d have to put some work into it and there were a few things that needed to tending to according to the previous owner (who owned it for less than 60 days and didn’t know much about it…he got bad news from doctor and had to unload it). Like the water heater, driving a/c and one other minor thing that escapes my memory at the moment.

So I drove it from Pensacola, Florida to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and it drove wonderfully!!! Not a problem (other than the known a/c issue). It was hell on gas! So, I quickly found out that driving over 60 mph wasn’t cost effective. That’s okay, it’s not my intention to be in a rush to go and be anywhere.

An RV!!! A Winnebago Minnie!!!

It was odd, but great timing. I parked in my daughter’s alternate driveway and she and kids came out to excitedly inspect (you see, I’ll be moving out of her house shortly). It was cool. It’s just 26 feet long, but it’s comfortable to move around in and will serve its purpose well.

Here’s what I mean by “it was odd, but great timing”. After the initial inspection at Carrie’s house, I needed to pull it up a tad….so I did. That’s when I noticed that the brake pedal went straight to the floor and I was told that the rear lights weren’t working!!! I’ll take care of these things in the morning. Well it turns out (and I was lucky this didn’t happen on the road) that there’s a hole in my passenger side brake line. Even with no pressure, the fluid has bled completely out. And the tail lights…..I’m clueless at the moment. So many different reasons for that problem. No, it’s not the light bulbs, I replaced all of them.

So, right now, I can only do a little fix up stuff and move in…..that’s what I’m doing. I’m trying to find someone that can come out. I thought I had a local mechanic…..I thought for over a week. Never showed up, never initiated any contact, it was always me that was contacting him and ALL I ever got was “I’m waiting for the part to come in”!!! FOR REAL!!!! If anyone wants a bit more information in West Baton Rouge Parish….just message me ……I don’t talk negative about any businesses on my sites. Now, I’m waiting on another call……we’ll see. I don’t have the tools it takes to do the job and my hands are not as young as they used to be, so I’m at another’s mercy.

I’m anxious to hit the road for my first adventure….and I don’t even know where I’m going yet!! Although a beach is ‘HIGH’ on my list.

I’ve still got some of Europe to share and I’ll be doing that next and updating the RV status in-between.

For now….

Peace, love and beaches,

John
