Quarteira, Faro, Portugal….Some Downtime

Quarteira, Faro, Portugal….Some Downtime

For me, some good old downtime when I’m traveling is like a vacation from traveling.

I see so much, do so much…..and ALL the photos!!!  There needs to be time to process.

I’m not gonna go to some place that has a lot to do, I’m looking for some place that is away from the tourism but yet has something that’s going for it, something that does attract some people.

Quarteira is just that place.

It’s on the beach and there are a number of resorts that are nearby and it appears to be a summer time hot spot. Just not so hot during the winter.  Although I did spy some dedicated surfers accepting the challenge of some of the larger waves I’d ever seen (waves don’t get that high on the west coast of Florida except during tropical storms and hurricanes) and a few sunbathers (young and old).

A lovely clean beach and an uncountable number of high-rise apartment and condo buildings all with the same basic colors….white, reddish, and tan as far as the eye can see.

Quarteira is lined with busy little shops (even in their off-season), resort hotels and condos.  Everyday is a relax experience along what I call a boardwalk without boards.

I can only image how crowded this would be in the summer months.  Probably a bit too much for me as I’m not a big fan of crowds.

One thing I noticed while here is there were no police on the tourist beat!!  I guess they know what and when to expect.

Quarteira on the beach downtime…

Further down this board walk is a bustling business of restaurants, vegetable fruit stands, a huge fish market and the marina full of fishing boats.  I could not get in to the marina as it is fenced in and well secured.  Wifi is readily available in most stores….as a matter of a fact in all the shops I went into.  On the wall is the wifi name and the password, if it isn’t or I couldn’t find it all I had to do was ask.

Walking along on the boardwalk periodically there is a  Free wifi!!!  It seems that once you’re connected to one, all the others connect so I’m connected to continuous wifi.  Along the walk are park benches for resting and surfing…web surfing that is.

On the way to the resort of Vilamoura there’s this long walk thru this park which is adjacent to the beach.  There is wifi  available too. Another thing I found unique about this park is that all the lamps that light the way are solar-powered.   Another special aspect of this park is the greenery is all ‘herbs’!!!  I picked some for cooking. Basil, thyme, and rosemary mostly.

Folks are friendly.  Willing to take a moment and a smile with me and no one has turned down my asking if I may take a photo of them….so cool.

This is a cool and laid back place to hang for a week or two.

I love my downtime…

Next up….Vilamoura!

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
